Best GL.iNet Router need-Recommendations

Hi everyone,

I’m currently looking into getting the best GL.iNet router and wanted to hear some real experiences from people here. I’ve been a long-term user of GL.iNet products in general, and I’ve always appreciated their reliability and simple setup. Now I’m thinking about upgrading and just want to make sure I choose the right model for my needs. Over the past few weeks, I’ve done quite a bit of research on multiple platforms, especially reading through threads and user discussions. I also went through a lot of customer reviews to see what real buyers are saying. These

GL.iNet GL-MT3600BE (Beryl 7) Portable

GL.iNet GL-BE3600 (Slate 7) Portable Travel

These models just have tons of reviews and mostly positive feedback, which is why they caught my attention. I’m still in the research phase and would really appreciate honest suggestions before making a final decision. If you’ve used either of these, please share your thoughts. Have a nice day and thanks again!

I wouldn’t go for either to be honest with you if you just needed it for travel. For that purpose, I would choose the Beryl AX (or possibly Mudi 7 after seeing real-world reviews once it has been properly tested) due to longer history of support and more reliability when it comes to traveling but also I find the WiFi 7 products from GL.iNET to have been insainely overpriced. For home use, their best router for me by far has been the Flint 2. It really depends on what your usecase exactly is and what source of client devices you are planning to connect.

In the US the AX is $99 and the Beryl 7 is $125 now. I think I'd go for the 7 but I love my AX. The Mudi 7 is a special case but a lot more.

I have the following traveling internationally with me regularly:

Beryl 7

Opal

Mudi v2

I use the Opal on the airplane to connect to inflight wifi for my devices. The Beryl would do this too, but it’s buried in my bag.

I use the Beryl 7 at the hotel for repeater/router with strong/fast VPN (Opal would work for this, but the new Beryl has a faster processor, better VPN speeds).

I use the Mudi v2 with a EIOT physical eSim for mobile data just about any where, using both first (EIOT) and third (country specific) eSims.

Which is best depends on your use case and needs, but of the two you listed, I can vouch for the Beryl 7 for traveling. It works from a usb power bank, too, as does the opal.

I’ve previously had/used the Puli as a travel LTE router, but it’s limited to 2.4 GHz wifi.

What hotel utilises WiFi 7 for their guests?

None that I know of, but the Beryl 7 has superior VPN speeds over WireGuard (3x better than Beryl AX) AND the USB-CD PD port means better compatibility between power sources. USB 3.0 means better throughput for USB drives (I know, traveling with a media collection is crazy) and or USB cellular dongles.

You may notice I didn’t tout WiFi 7 as one of the benefits for my use case.

Cheers.

I second this, I also don't bought it for wifi 7, but for a powerfull router to stream moonlight over wireguard remotely where I have a fast connection via the repeater mode.

It is very nice performance between the slate 7 pro and slate 7, but you won't get the tri-band and touchscreen which is no problem for me, the cpu is.

For MLO meh, I don't even use it, it does not make much sense on two bands where one band 2.4ghz is known to be noisy, but I can also just use the classic wifi which I do.

With the Slate 7 I found them too big to suite in the travel casing bags, I'm always afraid to rip the antenna off:face_savoring_food:
