Best way to set up a home VPN with AT&T router

Hi,

I want to set up a home VPN server to route the traffic from my mobile router (GL-XE3000) through my home IP address.

But my home router is the AT&T model (BGW320-505) which is going to make this difficult. Would getting a GL-MT2500 be the best option, or what? Any ideas?

Thanks.

And one more thing – Would there be any benefit, in terms of speed, in getting a Fllint 2 instead?

Hi,

It depends on your use case:

  • Flint 2 is a better fit if you need a full Wi-Fi router and want higher WireGuard performance.
  • MT2500 (Brume 2) is typically better if you don’t need Wi-Fi (it’s commonly used as a VPN gateway) and prefer a smaller, wired-only setup.

For model-by-model VPN figures and full specifications, please check:

Also note that actual throughput can be limited by your ISP uplink/downlink, latency, and the network quality at your travel location.

What exactly do you mean by “wireguard performance”? Will the Flint 2 give me better dl speeds for streaming?

I currently ATT Fiber as well I have the Att modem in passthrough mode using the brume 2 as wireguard server have use multiple opal device to connect back to home with no problem

WireGuard VPN encryption and decryption consume CPU performance, and in this respect, the Flint 2 delivers better performance.

Please note that VPN speeds depend on several factors. In addition to the router’s CPU capability, they are also affected by your home ISP’s upload/download speeds and the network conditions at the VPN client’s location.

Thank you for the help. I set this up with a Flint 2 and it seems to be working perfectly.
