Beta Testers Wanted: Comet (GL-RM1)! ✨

Even a "novice user" can be a good tester.
Sometimes they catch issues that expert users miss, simply because they might use the product in unexpected ways :slight_smile:

Any ETA for the release?
I am thinking about buying the NanoKVM, but the specs of Comet look way better. So I can wait 6 months if this is released for the summer.
Any price range? NanoKVM full is around 60$-80$, so I expect this to be 100$-150$.

We will start pre-sales at the end of March, so you can receive your device as soon as April.

You want people to beta test a device after it’s available for presale and already mass produced with a firmware only tested in house? I guess gl-inet have their own definition of beta testing.

Closed Beta testing = internal
Public Beta testing = users

If there's issues with early users, likely via insights from public beta testers, it'll get patched

But if you are not up for what is realistically way lighter touch testing via paid testers, then you'll be glad to know it's entirely optional

is this where some of the discussion related to the testing will happen? (obviously alongside submitting bug reports to the team directly etc)

if so, i'm curious to hear the thoughts of the users that were accepted into the beta program?? :thinking: how is the device performing overall? any major usability limitations?

Please make sure it is easy to adjust which keyboard, mouse, monitor the GL-RM1 tells the computer it is.

@radishman on the product sepcification it's saying the USB 2.0 port can be used for extension, enabling connection to a finger switch.
What does this mean?

I can't find any source at Google, but I know 'USB finger' as term for a device that could turn on/off a computer.
As the button today are electric and not mechanic, a relais is enough to perform this action.

And as this signal is the same as your finger does, it is called 'USB finger'.
Often used in remote server racks, where you don't have something like IPMI (from Dell for example), or you have a good reason not to trust your server remote management.

This weds to be answered by someone who is beta testing the device.
I can imagine something like emulation a WOL package. Or like the power button on a keyboard.

I doubt they will set GPIO direct to the ATX ... But it would be cool :slight_smile:

fingerbot type thing

We provide 3 different types of remote startup methods for comet:

Method 1: WOL (Wake on LAN), remotely wake up your computer through the network, the simplest, no need to rely on accessories, but requires your controlled computer to support the WOL protocol.

Method 2: ATX board, it will wake up the computer by simulating the signal of the power button. The most reliable, but the installation is more complicated.

Method 3: Fingerbot, it is a mechanical device that wakes up the computer by physically pressing the power button. Relatively speaking, the simplicity and reliability are between the first two.
