Brume 2 VLAN Speed Limitation with Ubiquiti AP – Need Assistance

Hello GL-iNet Community,

I’ve been experiencing an issue with my Brume 2 (GL-MT2500/GL-MT2500A) gateway where I’ve set up a VLAN (VLAN 10) for a guest network in conjunction with a Ubiquiti access point. Despite various configuration attempts, including direct adjustments through the LuCI interface following a tutorial from this forum, the VLAN’s throughput is limited to around 5Mbps, which is significantly below expectations.

Notably, disabling the Brume 2’s hardware acceleration feature was the only change that impacted performance, leading to increased latency across the network – a solution that’s far from ideal.

Here’s a brief overview of my setup:

  • VLAN 10 configured for guest network isolation
  • Ubiquiti AP for device connection, with VLAN settings applied
  • Hardware acceleration disabled (with noted adverse effects on latency)

I’ve been troubleshooting this for a while without success and would greatly appreciate any insights or suggestions you might have. Is there a known limitation or configuration setting I might be overlooking that could resolve the speed issue without compromising network latency?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

How is the network speed if hardware acceleration is enabled ? How did you test the speed of the clients ? Did you try another AP in case ?

Hello, and thanks for the reply. If disable HW acceleration I get the correct (max) bandwidth, set by the AP speed profile. I’ve tested the speed by using this project: https://openspeedtest.com/, transferring data directly from my iPhone to it, I always get about 5-10mbs up and down. I have two of those Ubiquiti AP, they both behave the same. Thank you.

Thanks. The hardware acceleration switch in gl firmware is buggy. If you check my older posts you can see some details about it.

So if I understand you correctly you would like to use HW acceleration in your setup while not affecting the network speed? Then, disable HW acceleration in GL Admin panel. Next, go to LuCi and enable it under the Firewall section. You may need to reboot the modem, not sure?

Please note in my setup I disable the HW/SW acceleration most of the time as it is still buggy and not well implemented! You can check OpenWrt forums where most people complain about it due to dropped network packets.
