I have a Brume 2 connected to a ARRIS cable modem. Whenever I reboot the Brume 2, the WAN port links up, but that's it. No internet connection. I have to physically unplug the ethernet cable and plug it back in so that the Brume 2 will finally get the WAN DHCP assignment and connects to the internet. It's strange since I see a link light on the ARRIS cable modem, and when I ssh to the Brume 2 it shows a link on eth0. Any idea's to resolve this?
@bruce this seems related to what I saw, the Brume 2 Mac address seems to get set late in the boot up process and the modem or ont the Brume 2 is connected to receives a different MAC address to the one on router.
Unplugging the ethernet cable or soft rebooting the router fixes this.
I'm confused by using 'ifup eth1' since my Brume 2 WAN port is on eth0. And, the WAN (eth0) interface is up because it is showing linked on the Brume 2 and the ARRIS cable modem link lite is illuminated. Even though there is a link, the Brume 2 just isn't getting the DHCP assignment from the service provider upon bootup/restart until I unplug the ethernet cable and reconnect it.
As you mentioned that it can get DHCP when you re-connect the network cable, so let us try it, ifup restart the interface to see if it can improve by this workaround.
Sorry, but using 'ifup wan' didn't fix the problem.
I connected via SSH and tried 'ifdown wan' and then 'ifup wan' which didn't work. I then tried 'ifconfig eth0 down' and 'ifconfig eth0 up', and still it did not work.
So the only thing I can do is physically disconnect the WAN cable and reconnect it to get the WAN port to get a DHCP assignment and start working.
First, I opened the Advanced Settings GUI, and selected Network/Interfaces.
Second, on the Interfaces Tab, I selected ‘edit’ on the WAN Interface and changed the Device from eth0 to eth1 and saved (NOT 'Save and Apply').
Third, I then selected the Devices Tab. On the Devices Tab, I selected ‘configure’ on the br-lan device. Then I selected the Bridge Ports dropdown where I unchecked eth1 and checkmarked eth0 and saved.
Finally, I selected Save & Apply, and physically swapped the Ethernet cables around.
After rebooting, the Brume 2 connects to the WAN on eth1 and gets an IP address just fine now.
BUT, the GUI page is incomplete since it doesn't show anything about the WAN connection or IP at all. It just shows WAN Port Status: using as LAN port. The only way I can see the WAN connection/IP information is on the advanced GUI page.
