Sorry to clarify in my current scenario with 4.11.0 I am not using wireless backhaul. I am using wired backhaul with 10gb SFP+ DAC cable connected to a 10gb SFP+ switch that is connected to the 10gb RJ45 port on the Primary main Flint 4.
To my clarify home network I have Flint 4 router connected to 900/900mbps internet that uses DHCP not PPPOE.
On the 10Gb SFP+ port I have that connected with a DAC Cable to a Ubuntu desktop with a Mellanox card. On the 10Gb RJ45 port I have it connected to a sl-swtgw3c8f switch. It’s this switch which has 2x PCs with the same mellanox cards and cable types connected. I can get 10Gb lan speeds on the 2x PCs when doing transfers to the Ubuntu server so we know the core backbone can do 10Gb.
On the sl-swtgw3c8f I also have the 2nd Flint 4 connected through a DAC cable at the moment, hence why I am not using mesh mode.
The tests below are conducted on 6GHz wifi on my Pixel 9 Pro XL.
So with the Flint 4 in AP mode and HWNAT enabled my download speeds over WAN and LAN are both cut significantly. For example my internet speed over 6GHz Wifi is limited to ~350/525mbps, it should be 900/900mbps that I get when running the test on the Primary Flint 4 in router mode on the same firmware with the same WiFi settings.
If I do a LAN speed test as well using Openspeedtest that runs on a server connected to the Primary Flint 4 with a 10gb SFP+ DAC Cable then I get 452/1813mbps. So again download is significantly limited but upload is much faster here.
If I turn off HWNAT on the AP and leave it in AP mode then the results are the same.
If I switch my AP Flint 4 to router mode then the download speed is choked even more on an internet speedtest with ~200/500mbps download and upload over WiFi. When I do a local speedtest to openspeedtest I get 277mbps/1300mbps but sometimes the download speed goes all the way back to 6 or 12mbps!
In the admin panel if I do a speed test I get the full speed 935/925.
If I then turn HWNAT off in the admin panel and do another Openspeedtest I get 28mbps download but the upload test hits nearly 400mbps before failing! If I do an internet speedtest I do get faster speeds at 263/635mbps.
If I turn HWNAT on and use the 10gb RJ45 as WAN I get 43mbps/335mbps over the internet speed test and 12/1040mbps mbps on openspeedtest. At this point if I run the internet speedtest on the 2nd Flint 4 from the network quality page I get 900/980 so again the 2nd Flint 4 can reach full internet speed here.
With HWNAT disabled and the 10gb RJ45 as WAN I get 545/530mbps over openspeedtest and 730/600mbps on the internet speedtest.
All tests apart from the network quality speed test use the 6GHz WiFi and were done in the same spot next to the unit and to the same internet speedtest server.
So basically I am not getting the speed that I should be getting over WiFi and the previous 4.9.1 firmware is slightly faster for internet and local speedtests. My internet speed is 900/900 and my local network is 10gb so my phone should hit around ~2000mbps due to it’s limited radios.
Of course when I connect to the main Flint 4 and run all the speedtests with the same firmware and HWNAT enabled then all the speeds are fine as expected. It’s just a problem when using another Flint 4 atleast through a switch and extending the network through AP or Router mode.
With mesh mode enabled using the RJ45 as the wired backhaul I get slightly faster internet speeds at 800/500 and much faster lan speedtest 1130/1550mbps.
If I then disable HWNAT in AP mode through the commands I get 1200/1440 in the local speedtest and then 830/480mbps in the internet speedest. So really in mesh mode the HWNAT doesn’t seem to make a difference.
I would really appreciate if you could try and reproduce this.
