Bus power + data

I’m currently powering my Comet directly from the remote machine, which works very well, except that there’s no data on the same port, so I cannot control it.

Comet power source - #2 by alex_zheng suggests that connecting both the power and data ports to a PC isn’t recommended, is that right?

Yes, I replied before" It can be powerd by standard USB off a mini pc if you don't connet the USB port.
And once the mini pc is powered off the comet also will offline if you connect like that."
If you can set the your remote machine to keep your usb jack 5V, that will fine.

That doesn’t answer my question at all. Let me rephrase.

Can I or can I not connect both the power and data to the PC?

No, the current of the computer USB cannot support the normal operation of Comet

That’s simply not true, as I’ve already explained. I’ve been powering the Comet from the USB-C port of my machine for a while now.

Again, your answer is not to my question.

If your computer can provide a stable current of more than 2A, you can do this

I'm pretty sure the USB-C with the lightning 5V 2A is strictly used for power only and not data. You can not send data to your power supply.

Sorry, that my explanation is not clear enouth. You can connect both the 5V power cable and the data cable to the PC. and in this situation DONT connect any device on the USB-A port of RM1.

You would need to connect both ports on the Comet to the PC, then it will work.

Issue might happen if the USB port loses power while rebooting..

I did this for a few days (used a second PC) because I needed an adapter to plug the Comet's PSU into my PDU.
