I am a total nubbie to GL-iNet so please have patience with me. I bought the GL-1200 (Beryl) primarily for use when traveling. I am not considering adding a VPN service (possibly NORD or Proton) as my travel is becoming more often and will include over seas. I am retired so use is mostly for banking, email, surfing and streaming. My question is can I load the VPN app on the GL-1200 or do I need to install the app on my individual devices connecting to the internet via the GL-1200. If the app can be loaded onto the GL1200, how is this done? I realize if the VPN app is only on the GL1200 and not the individual devices they would not be protected when not connected to the router but I generally do not use these devices outside the GL120 environment except as a phone or as a gps (Google maps). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Although there are some already predefined, as long as they are providers of OpenVPN or WireGuard, the router will work perfectly. Then, if as you say you want to connect a phone, for example, without the router, you simply have to install the OpenVPN or WireGuard app on your device and add the configuration of the provider you have contracted.
As for OpenVPN or WireGuard, WireGuard is much faster.
