Cannot access Internet on AXT1800

Hey everyone, so I have an AXT1800 which I am using on a repeated setting. It was working fine earlier but after updating the firmware to 4.8.2 I keep on getting this error “Interface is Connected, but internet can’t be accessed”.

I can connect my windows and android to the router and its working fine but as soon as I connect my Linux laptop, it restart saying client is offline then client is online and that keeps on repeating.

I downgraded to 4.6.11 and its working fine. Any idea on how to resolve the issue wih 4.8.2?

Hi

Based on your description, it seems you are encountering two issues on the AXT1800 running firmware 4.8.2:

  1. The interface shows “Interface is Connected, but internet can’t be accessed.”
  2. A Linux device connected to the router appears to repeatedly switch between online and offline in the Client list.

If this understanding is correct:

Regarding Issue 1:
The 4.8.x firmware series includes updated logic for detecting internet availability. In some environments, this may lead to false positives even when connectivity is normal.
You may try the following under Admin Panel > Network > Multi-WAN:

Regarding Issue 2:
To investigate the fluctuating online/offline status, please provide the following details:

  1. How the Linux laptop is connected (wired or Wi-Fi).
  2. If wired, confirm the cable is firmly seated and try different cables or ports.
  3. If on Wi-Fi, check whether the laptop itself reports disconnections.
  4. Run a continuous ping to the router’s LAN IP (default 192.168.8.1) from the Linux device to check for packet loss.

and this comes up when I connect my linux laptop

This is what ping shows.

Hi Will, thank you for the reply.

I did the first option but after doing that my vpn connection does not go through. It kept on trying until I enabled interface status track.

Moreover, the connection works fine if I am on a mobile or a windows laptop. But keeps blinking when I connect my Linux laptop.

Moving to the second resolution, I am using a wireless connection on linux and no the laptop does not disconnects from the router. It stays connected but without internet.

Regarding Issue 1:
We would like to inspect the device remotely via GoodCloud.
Could you follow the tutorial below to share the device with us, then send the router’s MAC address and WebUI login password via private message?

Regarding Issue 2:
Could you clarify how the Linux host is connecting to the AXT1800? Based on your description, it appears:

a. When the Linux host uses Ethernet, something (What's it?) keeps blinking.
b. When using Wi-Fi, the Linux host can ping the router’s LAN address but cannot access the internet.

If scenario (b) is accurate, please also verify the following:

  1. When connected via Wi-Fi, does the AXT1800’s Admin Panel > Internet page show that the internet connection is normal?
  2. How does the AXT1800 obtain its upstream internet connection (Ethernet WAN, wireless repeater, USB tethering, etc.)?
  3. Please export the logs and send them to us via private message for further investigation.
