Cannot tether iphone 16 pro with IOS 18.1.1 to GL-MT3000

I purchased the Beryl GL-MT3000 specifically so I could tether my iPhone 16 Pro with IOS 18.1.1. (carrier ATT) to my home network via the Beryl router. I took it out of the box this morning and logged into it. However, I cannot get it to tether no matter what I do. I've tried all of the suggestions I could possibly find:

  • ensure bluetooth and wifi off
  • make sure hotspot is set to usb only
  • turn off and on hotspot a few times waiting 5 seconds in between
  • tried different usb cable - I get the charge chime on phone so it connects
  • reset privacy settings
  • reset network settings
  • update firmware on router to latest 4.6.9
  • rebooted phone
  • rebooted router
All of the above I have tried. The router does not see a tethered device and the iphone does not give the trust pop up. Is there anything else I can try?

Thanks!

I found the cause of my own problem and it was the crappy apple usb cable. I used a better usb-a to usb-c cable that I use when I am in my truck and it worked. It is now tethering like no tomorrow! Yay! Next thing to do is test this one my home network. Fingers crossed!
