Can't access local network if WireGuard --> VPS is running

I cannot solve the following problem and would like some help.

Initial situation:
The attached picture shows my network configuration. The GL-iNET router is connected to the access router via an Ethernet cable (WAN).

The GL-iNET router is connected to an external VPS server via WireGuard. A media player (AppleTV) is connected directly to the GL-iNET router via an Ethernet cable. The VPS server is the exit point for this. I have configured the hardware switch to “WireGuard VPN off and on”.

Everything works perfectly so far.

Problem

  1. when the GL-iNET router is connected to the WireGuard VPS server, apps on the AppleTV cannot access my home network. This only works if I disconnect the VPN connection.

  2. files (videos, pictures, etc.) from e.g. iPhones that are connected to the access router via WLAN cannot be played on the AppleTV via Airplay. Airplay only works if I physically remove the GL-iNET router from the network.

I would like to achieve the following

  • I want apps on the AppleTV to be able to access the home network, even if the GL-iNET router is connected to the VPS server through WireGuard.

  • I want to use AirPlay without having to remove the GL-iNET router.

I am grateful for any support.
