Cant connect repeater to wifi

Hi I have the mango v2 set up and working flawlessly for months following this guide. I also have the server set up.

Now when I try to connect to a wifi network the SSID shows up in the repeater section, and I click connect, but the connection fails and says it cannot find the SSID. I have tried one other network with the same result. I updated firmware and also did a hard reset. Still the same issue. I'm wondering if something happened while travelling, but I find it odd it can still see the SSID but just cant connect. Am I missing something obvious here?

Thanks in advance!

Edit:
I have tried cloning mac, static ip, downgrading firmware, upgrading firmware, nothing does the trick. every time it just says "Could not find the network, please check the SSID and security type you entered."

BUT I can connect to my phone hotspot, so I dont think it's the case of a broken router. Still I have no idea why I cannot connect here.

Possible reasons.

  1. The encryption method does not match, such as the target network uses a special encryption protocol (such as WPA3), and the device only supports WPA2 or lower versions
  2. The WiFi signal is 5G, but Mango only supports 2.4G WiFi
  3. The WiFi network has MAC address filtering or blacklist restrictions
    Suggestions.
  4. Check the security protocol of the GL router
  5. Try to connect to other public WiFi/ 2.4G WiFi
  6. Use a virtual MAC address

Hi @alen5193 thanks for the reply!

I just checked the details for the connection on my laptop (connected directly to the wifi, no repeater). Here are the details
Channel: 2.4GHz
Security Type: WPA-Personal
Protocol: Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n)

I switched the mango's security protocol like your screen shot to WPA/WPA2-PSK, but I don't think this should matter because this is how my devices connect to the mango wirelessly right? I am connected with ethernet, so the issue is getting the mango to connect to the rooms wifi to function as a repeater?

The wifi is a personal router for an airbnb, pretty old, it would be surprising if they had any custom filtering or blacklisting, but I did still try using the MAC address as well as the static ip of my phone which is connected fine, neither succeeded. I'm not sure what you mean by a virtual MAC address.

Any other thoughts? Do you think this could be a compatibility issue that would be resolved by upgrading to a beryl for example?

I have no other suggestions. The 2.4GHz used by mango has a lot of interference.

upgrading to a beryl: Do you mean using the latest MT3000 Beryl AX router? It can use 2.4G and 5G WiFi, which may help your problem

Well what is in the personal router LOG or Mango LOG when connection fails?.

Extra possible causes:

-signal too weak. Handshake fails
-signal too strong. WPA/WPA2-PSK handshake fails. (!!)
(too strong may happen if the mango is closer than 1 meter to the personal router.
(Smartphone, tablet PC have 13dBm (20mWatt) and much lower transmit power. Mango has 20dBm (100mWatt) or even 30dBm (1000mWatt) transmit power. Signal drops 6dB (to 1/4 ) with each doubled distance.

  • mismatch in basic rates setting (1 Mbps, 6 Mbps) are usually mandatory
  • 40Mhz channel width blocked by "40 MHz intolerant bit set"
  • password and SSID allowed characters and limits may differ between devices
