I've been using Magic Jack for 10+ years and its always been plug and play on my previous routers. Before this router I was using Asus RT-AX1800S and it connected fine. I have my Asus router setup as an Access Point (AP) connected now to my Spitz AX router with Magic Jack and multiple other devices plugged into my Asus router. I'm not too technically savoy but have searched the internet and it said to try and open up ports 5060 and 5070 UDP which I have under the firewall tab but it is still not working. It also is not showing up on my Clients List. Everything else I have hooked up through my Asus router has connected fine with no manually settings being done. Any help or Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Not have experience with Magic jack. But you can log in to Spitz AX, navigate to admin panel->NETWORK->Network Acceleration to disable the network acceleration mode, see if it helps.
You need to enable SIP option on the spitz to make it work flawlessly.
I tried that. Still no luck
How and where do I enable SIP Option?
I believe the Enable SIP ALG option was added in beta firmware. You may need to save your settings and install the beta version.
You need also to verify and test that port forwarding is working for the VoIP ports you mentioned at the beginning.
So you are not "tech savvy" (your words), so let's start here.
I can imagine your Asus is doing UPNP, which is opening all the needed ports by request. And maybe a little more. We should be thankful, this 'feature' is not available at GL-iNet firmware, so we have control over what is leaving or entering the network.
How did you exactly configured the firewall?
Go to "Network - Firewall'. Could you send is a screenshot from this setting? If you feel better, blur out the internal IP.
I didn't configure the firewall at all. There's 3 taps when you click it. Port Forwards, Open Ports on Router and DMZ.. Only thing I did under the firewall was opened up the ports 5060 and 5070 like it says on the Internet for Magic Jack. Don't get me wrong, I know how to research but I don't understand any of the customization "AT" commands with this router
I just want to be informative, no offense at all.
And on the page is exactly the issue.
We have the WAN, the Router, the LAN and the Devices in the LAN.
On the tab 'Open ports on router' you've managed that requests from WAN will be send to the router itself. But there is no service, nothing happens.
- Delete the two entry from 'Network - Firewall - Tab: Open ports in router'
You want to forward the ports to your phone. So you need to know the IP if your phone. But the router will give you a list of attached devices.
- Go to 'Network - Firewall - Tab: Port forwards'
- Add a rule:
- Name: VoIP5060UDP
- Protocol: UDP
- External zone: WAN
- External Port: 5060
- Internal Zone: LAN
- Internal IP: [Select from list]
- Internal Port: 5060
- Enable: Acive
Do the same for the port 5070 ...
But this will only guaranteed work if the SpitzAX is connected to the Internet via WAN. If there is a secondary router between Spitz and internet, this one will need the forward rule as well.
I'm not sure how to get the IP address of the Magic Jack? It doesn't show up in the clients tap
Everything is connected with LAN, I should switch it to WAN?
Maybe the magic jack manual or support can answer this.
But if you click on the 'Internal IP' list, there is the IP and below the hostname or the MAC address. In best case the hostname will be good, in worst case you need to search a sticker or in the settings what is the MAC address if the telephone.
But in both cases you can identify the phone, we can't remotely.
I am not sure what you want to switch with 'WAN/LAN'.
If your setup is "Internet - ISP Router - SpitzAX - Phone" ... Set port forwarding at the ISP router as well.
If your setup is "Internet - Spitz AX - Phone" everything is fine.
I do not ask why you have hat a Asus router behind a ISP router and switched this to a GL-iNet router, instead of changing the ISP router .... I believe this construct will make sense in any way.
Thanks for helping me so much! I'm sure I'll figure it out in the morning with your tips when I get up. I'm off to bed. I'm aggravated right now and need a clean head to try in the morning.
