Can't Unbrick

I have a GL-AR300M16 travel router. I was upgrading the firmware and selected the base AR300 firmware by mistake which bricked the router. I went through the steps using Uboot to upload new firmware but and it looks like it reboots but ultimately the SSID does not show up and attempting to get to the 192.168.8.1 page does not work.

My steps:

  1. unplug everything from the router
  2. hold reset and plug into power
  3. wait for LEDs to flash
  4. plug in ethernet and set computer ip to 192.168.1.2
  5. upload new firmware. (I have attempted openwrt-ar300m16-3.216-0321-1679391734 and openwrt-ar300m16-4.3.17-0607-1717697077)
  6. screen shows update in progress.
  7. Router LEDs flash and then turn to two steady greens but no red wifi

A few things. I think you need to set the computer to 192.168.1.2 and plug in the Ethernet cable between your computer and the router before before applying power to the AR300M16.

Make sure you give the routers plenty of time after the firmware load for the WIFI to come up.

If this is an older router, you may want to try the older 3.105 firmware. I have had issues on some of my routers when using old Uboot versions to install newer GL iNet firmware.

Eric,

Gave both of your suggestions a try and still the same results. Appreciate the advice.

Before entering 192.168.8.1
Did you cancel the static ip for 192.168.1.2?

I did. forgot to put that in my main post.
