Cgnat modem and Glinet MT-6000

Hello,

last week I changed provider because of installing fibre to the home.

So, I got a new box and because I had my Glinet MT6000 all configured, I only had to put it in a DMZ IPv4.

I searched through the configuration pages and the only DMZ I found, was a IPV6 DMZ.

I configured the MT-6000 so my network can reach the internet.

The provider’s modem is using IPv6 and IPv4 cgnat.

I called them and they said they have to downgrade my modem so I can use DMZ IPV4 like before.

I searched the internet and found that they use cgnat because of the lack of ipv4 adresses.

I do understand that, but that’s only on the WAN side ?

Is it not possible to do a translation from LAN IPv4 to WAN IPv6 ?

Greetings Tom

No, this isn't really possible. It already happens because of CGNAT mostly.

You need either use IPv6 only or go with a service like AstroWarp, ZeroTier or Tailscale.

You can try finding a tunnel, but you still need ipv6 as endpoint.

Ipv4 can only communicate with ipv4, and ipv6 only with ipv6.

Such tunnel forwards or converts ipv4(lan) to ipv6 (destination wan), such tunnels are called 4in6 for ipv4 to ipv6, but you also have 6in4 from ipv6(lan) to ipv4(destination, wan), i could be mistaken about the two namings they could be doing both equally the same ipv4->ipv6(wan), but i do know they are tunnels.

Though it is very advanced, not my expertise.

@admon and @xize11 thank you for your replies.

First of all, I'm going to try to get IPv4 back. If not, maybe I'm going to change provider.

At very last, I'll try other solutions.

Hello, after 15 days the provider has 'degraded' my modem and now i do NOT have cgnat anymore but IPv4.
I can access my home by the Wireguard server as is was before.

When I use internet while using the WG server connection, I thought that in the old case, the AGH was also blocking publications for the devices which were connected through the WG VPN but now, I still have pubs on my phone, while connected through WG.

Did I miss a configuration detail?

Thanks anyhow,

Tom
