how do you change the mac address for extender mode?
if you go to network>mac address and change it to manual and put in a mac address, then go to network mode and change it to extender and hit apply, it says “please reset your mac to factory mac in mac clone”.
it even says in network>mac address to randomize your mac address when connecting to a network but then it wont allow you to leave a manual mac address set when trying to enable extender mode
why is it giving this error message? what if you dont want to use the factory mac and want to use a custom one when in extender mode?
also, can you change the factory mac address?
I don’t know the official way to do it,but like most linux OSs you can use the command line (via ssh) to change the MAC address there. There may be other scripts that will reset that, though, so it would take some digging to make sure it didn’t get set back. There may be a way in luci, I haven’t looked.
i know how to access ssh but i dont know what commands to put in.
i tried in luci for mac override for WAN but it doesnt seem to take effect after its applied.
i thought it would be simply to change the mac since it even recommends randomizing your mac when you connect to a network but then it doesnt let you do it.
ifconfig interface_name hw ether ne:wm:ac:ad:dr:es
i have to put in that exact command with the new mac and that is all i have to do?
will this persist after a reboot?
No, but you can put it into a startup script. If you change this in the luci interface it might be more sticky.
where can i change this in the luci interface? ive seen the “mac override” which i tried but it still doesnt seem to take effect. i tried rebooting it.
