Comet KVM (GL-RM1) - No HDMI signal detected | Hardware failure (chipid err 0x0, probe failed -22, empty i2cdetect) - Already emailed CS for RMA

Hi GL.iNet team and community,

I'm experiencing the "No HDMI signal detected" issue on my Comet KVM (GL-RM1). The HDMI source works perfectly when connected directly to a regular monitor, but the Comet shows no signal in the web interface. Mouse/keyboard passthrough works fine, but video is completely absent.

I've followed troubleshooting steps from the docs and several forum threads (like "New Comet KVM - No HDMI Signal Detected", "Comet KVM - No HDMI Signal Detected", "Blank screen - unable to change EDID after upgrade", etc.), including:

  • Trying different HDMI cables and ports
  • Forcing standard resolutions (1920x1080@60Hz, etc.)
  • Reboots, power cycles, etc.

But the diagnostics point to a hardware problem with the LT6911C chip.

Key logs via SSH:

I also tried downgrading firmware to 1.4.2 (and others) using updateEngine, but it failed with signature/image read errors (md5 not supported, can't read update.img, analyticImage error).

These logs match several forum reports (e.g., "chipid err read:0x0 expect:0x516", probe failed -22, and failed lt6911c_upgrade with "no found lt6911c device") where it was concluded as hardware failure of the LT6911C chip.

I've already sent a detailed email to cs@gl-inet.com today (February 22, 2026) with these exact logs, purchase details, and a request for expedited warranty replacement (including advanced/cross-ship option since I no longer have the original box). I'm a big fan of GL.iNet – I also have the Comet Pro with Wi-Fi and it's working flawlessly!

In the meantime, has anyone resolved a similar "chipid 0x0 + empty i2cdetect" issue without RMA? Or any additional diagnostics I can run?
