Well, I think I've figured it out- the bitrate seems to depend on the number of "on" pixels.
If just the "login" prompt on a mostly-empty screen, low bitrate.
if I have a page full of text, high bitrate.
While I guess I get that based on the effective bitrate, seems as if a comparison between two frames and seeing little (or in my case, no) differences and just sending what's changed should be an easy enough optimization to make, no?
I totally get your concerns. The actual bitrate depends on the video complexity and the bitrate being sent. In auto mode, it will use the highest bitrate your network can handle to keep the video clear. You can try lowering the quality manually to see if it helps, though unfortunately, we probably don’t have a better way to fix this issue.
Ah well ... I'd hoped to get one of those "1 GB total for a year" cheap SIMs for the rare times the Internet at the deployed location goes down. I have an "unlimited" tablet SIM in there now, it's only $15/mo and I'll probably switch to something with a yearly plan instead.
But in any case, the Comet5G has already paid for itself; I've had to fix an issue at the deployment point (1800 miles from me) twice in the last week that would have required a trip to fix, so still winning
