Consistent hourly lag

I’m developing a VR desktop application that consists of streaming desktops over wifi so I need my wifi to be rock solid. I’ve been chasing an issue where every hour on the dot my ping spikes and I get awful lag for around 8 seconds. Exactly an hour later it pops up and does it again every time.

I’ve been using a Flint 3 on 6ghz and I cannot find anything that would be causing this. DHCP lease time is 1 day, using a static IP on my devices didn’t change anything, disabled GTK did nothing and setting GTK to 1 day did nothing.

I gave up and wanted to rule out the router so I got a Flint 3e to test and surprisingly it didn’t exhibit this behavior. I still wasn’t convinced by this though and also got a random tri-band TP-Link router and it exhibited the same behavior as seen by my Flint 3.

2.4ghz 5ghz 6ghz
Flint 3e No lag No lag Not supported
Flint 3 Lag Lag Lag
TP-Link Lag Lag Lag

I’m at a loss for why my devices are lagging on what seems like routers that support 6ghz. I would much rather keep my Flint 3 but it doesn’t seem like I can if I can’t figure out what would be causing this hourly lag. Does anyone have any ideas on things I can try?

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed.

Since the lag occurs at a regular hourly interval, we would like to collect some additional information to help narrow down the issue.

  1. Could you please provide the model of the affected client device, as well as the model and driver or firmware version of its Wi-Fi adapter?
  2. Do any other devices connected to the Flint 3 experience a similar interruption at the same time?
  3. If possible, shortly before the lag is expected to occur, please start a continuous ping from the affected client to the router’s LAN IP?
  4. Could you please temporarily disable the 6 GHz Wi-Fi network and connect the device to a separate 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz SSID for testing?
  5. If the affected device was connected to an MLO network, could you please connect it to a standalone single-band SSID and check whether the issue still occurs?

After the issue occurs again, please export the system log and send the log and information to us via private message for further analysis.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
