There are a ton of suspiciously similar 4G/LTE USB modems on the market that work with GL.iNet routers, but every one I have tested at tops out at very low speeds - Cat 4 or other hardware/software bottlenecks that make them barely usable.
I have tried a number of generic devices, as well as ZTE/Huawei - without success. Most of them claim 100 Mbps down / 50 Mbps up - but I never get anywhere close, despite cellular network capability and capacity.
Has anyone found a USB modem that actually delivers at least 35 Mbps down and at least 30 Mbps up?
Use the SimPoYo 4G Dongle from Gl.Inet , cheap and it hits 140mb download for me if not just use a cheap 5g mobile phone (iphone 12 mini ,motorola 5g etc. Will probably get you better speeds depending on network and signal).
140 Mbps down from the house-branded USB modem … that is a big claim! It would be fantastic if that is possible. 140 is right at the theoretical maximum, so it makes me wonder. Could you share a speed test screenshot or let us know what network and conditions you're seeing that on?
Unfortunately tethering from a phone isn't an option for my use case - it has to be a USB modem.
At the minute i don’t have the SimPoYo as i gave it to my uncle for his trip. I will get it after 10th of April and gladly i will post speedtest ,however considering you are looking for minimum 35mb down and 30 up ,i can tell you the device easily achieves that(depending on signal obviously).
If you can’t wait, just order it from Amazon ,put your own phone sim card inside for some tests ans see for yourself ,if not happy you can easily return it through Amazon.
P.s. i’m not affiliated whatsoever with GL.inet i just share my experience with SimPoYO dongle which i am very happy with.
