Disconnect after established hotspot connection

Model: GL-MT1300 Beryl
Version: 4.3.25

Dear community,

I'm mostly using my Beryl in repeater mode during vacation to provide all my devices easy access to public hotspots / guest WiFis.

When first connecting to a new hotspot, I've to do it like this:

  1. Power-on Beryl.
  2. Connect device (e.g. smartphone or tablet) to Beryl's WiFi.
  3. Open Beryl's admin UI in web browser on device. Due to Beryl's self-signed certificate, a security warning appears in the web browser.
  4. Connect to the public hotspot in repeater mode. As soon as Beryl successfully established the connection with the hotspot, the WiFi connection between Beryl and my device gets disconnected.
  5. Connect device to Beryl's WiFi, again. Now I can successfully access the internet.

What seems odd to me:

  • #3: couldn't Beryl provide a properly signed TLS certificate?
  • #4: why does my device get disconnected from Beryl's WiFi as soon as the connection between Beryl and public hotspot gets established?

Thank you and best regards

Hi,

This may require adding maintenance tasks, it probably won't support for the time being.
But GL firmware supports manually importing customize certificates signed from CA institutions by yourself.

It may be that before establishing a connection of repeater, repeater needs to scan the surrounding WiFi, during scanning, the WiFi will temporarily disable own AP (WiFi), and then re-activate the AP after repeater connected.
This is normal behavior.
