Energy savings of scheduled WiFi switch-off?

I scheduled the 5Ghz network shutting off overnight on my MT1300 Beryl. Don’t need it. Was wondering though what the real power saving is. Even half a Watt reduction translates in about 1 kWh a year of energy that would be otherwise wasted. But could not find any firm numbers. Anyone has a measure to offer?

Side note was surprised to discover the unit is warm to the touch all the time. Even though workload is consistently light. OS v4.3.17.

Your numbers don't seem right to me - 0.0005kW x 365/2 (based on a 12 hours a day shutoff) is only 0.091 kWh a year.

As to the actual saving? I've got no clue, but I suspect close to zero.

Mine was 0.5 Watt * 6 hours a day * 365 days = 1,095 Watt hour a year.

1 kWh per year is … nothing at all.

Even in Germany, where the energy prices are higher than in most places, this would be just 0,4$ per year.

For saving energy you will need to turn off 2.4 as well.

Just to compare: Regular AC (clima) is around 3,4 kWh per hour …

Agreed. Cost is basically nil. The main question though is not about that.

Anyone with experience of the powertop package?
