Ethernet WAN not working on AXT1800

Hello!

My very first travel router as a present yesterday. In the process of getting things setup, I'm currently unable to get the ethernet WAN working properly.

Yesterday, I was able to plug-in into the ethernet WAN and get connectivity just fine.

Today, it constantly says "No cable detected".

What I've tried to troubleshoot so far:

  1. Upgrade/reset firmware - no change in outcome
  2. Trying different cables - no change in outcome
  3. Testing the incoming cable using a different device - confirmed I'm able to get DHCP and connectivity when the cable is plugged directly into my laptop
  4. Changing travel router MAC address - no change in outcome

I stumbled on this thread in the forums: GL-AX1800 router cannot access internet, possible modem connection isuse? - #5 by TeenagedLime3 and tried to check if the WAN port is functional.

ran swconfig dev switch0 show |grep port command and got the following results:

from the looks of it, might be a WAN port that went bad overnight? What should I do?

Thanks.

The WAN ethernet port is port 0. Your output shows that the link is up. What device is the AXT1800 connected?

Ah, thanks for clarifying.

WAN ethernet port is plugged into a LAN port coming out of the wall. (This port is connected to to my landlord's primary router.)

FWIW - when I switch the WAN port to LAN mode, it still does not recognize whenever an ethernet cable is plugged in

What's your main router IP range? Does it recognizes Slate as a client?

192.168.2.1 to 192.168.2.254 . As far as I can tell, it's not able to get an ip address via DHCP.

Other things I have tried since my last post:

  • downgrading to an older version
  • manually setting static IP

No luck on either front unforutnately.

Does a PC plugged into the landlord's ethernet work?

Yes - it works.

You might try cloning or copying the PC ethernet MAC address to the AXT1800 WAN port. That's all I can think of to try.

Tried that as well - unfortunately no luck. :\ in any case, thanks for the suggestion.

Update:

Enabled the repeater functionality on it and that worked without issues

But when I toggled the WAN port to be used as a LAN port and connected a desktop via ethernet, it wasn't able to get any sort of internet connectivity or DHCP. My conclusion is that the physical port itself is busted unfortunately.

Thanks all for helping brainstorm/troubleshoot this.
