Hi GL.iNet team,
After working closely with your support and doing a lot of testing on my Beryl AX (MT3000), I’d like to formally submit a feature request related to IPv6 usage in Wi-Fi WAN / Repeater mode.
The problem:
When using the MT3000 as a repeater or Wi-Fi WAN client (e.g., connected to a mobile router like Acer Connect M3), I’m running into severe download throttling issues over IPv4 TCP.
However, when the client devices (like laptops or smartphones) use IPv6, everything works perfectly.
The Beryl AX has IPv6 passthrough mode, but unfortunately:
– It does not consistently use IPv6 when connecting upstream,
– Clients connected to the MT3000 often still get IPv4 addresses, leading to degraded performance.
What works:
– When IPv6 passthrough "succeeds", speeds are great.
– Using a VPN (e.g., WireGuard/UDP) also helps, because UDP isn’t throttled.
But again – this behavior is inconsistent.
Suggested feature:
Please consider adding a configuration option in the firmware to:
– Prioritize or force IPv6 when the WAN/repeater connection supports it,
– Or at least let users explicitly choose IPv6 as the preferred protocol for the upstream link.
This would allow users to avoid issues like mine, and greatly improve compatibility with certain networks or mobile routers that mishandle IPv4.
Thank you again for your excellent support – I hope this suggestion can be considered in a future firmware update.
