[Feature request] Replace Wireguard with AmneziaWG

On AirVPN forum somebody figured out Amnezia parameters that apparently work with their Wireguard servers.

Thank you!

Also, here: Automatic configuration of AmneziaWG for OpenWRT version 23.05.0 and newer.

Many such providers, and more coming. Not going to list them to avoid ads, but it's not non-existent

Did anyone make a success in replacing current implementation with AmneziaWG?

Me and a lot of users need a straightforward TLDR manual on that โ€” even if glinet would add support in new firmwares, I won't upgrade because newer firmwares have bugs for my router.

If it is so easy replaceable, there should be guide like how to ssh onto router and replace wg binaries with amnezia' ones so custom GUI from glinet could handle refreshed configurations.

People who use only OpenWRT GUI - yea sorry, but I'd wish to have simple interface, especially outside of home, which is main feature of my travel router

I'm very sorry for a lot of emotions here in my message, I am just pissed of the situation, where router has vpn abilities, which are already censored in countries where I especially need the feature

If you found bugs, then please report them (here). Otherwise they will most likely not get fixed.

bro they will most likely not get fixed any way. Lets just stick with the thread, thank you!

@alzhao please add support of amnezia wg, its one of the easiest to implement vpn solutions (much easier than xray/vless/etc.) which are useful when censorship switched on (like russia/iran).

Yeah I just found a fork of wg-easy. . . . I really want this now on OpenWRT. :eyes:

It's a Docker container, so you can probably run it on GL-MT6000 or GL-MT2500.

Not really interesting. Moreover, project looks shady. And any fork makes it theoretically be more vulnerable.

Plus not many (read as none) VPN providers provide it.

Better to use something like goodbyedpi (on router) or cloudflare warp

I make install packets for OpenWRT 23.05.5 (and they installed successfully) The main issue that for kmod-awg.. package kernel dependency is important. The latter is the main reason why this package did not installed on op24 firmware (by GL-Inet) with kernel 6.6.
So you can install amnezia-wg if you use openwrt native firmware.

As of today, we still don't have solution to install AmneziaWG on GL.Inet routers? Just want to understand if I should stick with GL.Inet routers or proceed with the one which supports it.

You can install amnezia on GL routers, just without GL UI, you have to use pure openwrt firmware, a lot of instructions in this thread (scroll up).

Which router supports it?

Keenetic routers. Instructions how to install but in Russian only(sorry): Installing VPN with AmneziaWG on Keenetic routers | Amnezia Docs

Just a callout on practical front, I know there are "solutions", but it's another thing to work them out vs seamless use.

Today another basket-case regime out of global south (Pakistan) has gone full throttle on DPI blocking, just rolled it out on wireguard in anticipation of mass protests tomorrow.

It seems this is a BRICS thing being pushed to the non-OECD countries, and if more than half the world is just about affected, then wireguard even for non-privacy oriented use becomes useless, it makes sense to provide better user experience in regards to that.

For what this thread and the community discussion is worth, I think GL-MT2500N is the best candidate for a UI-oriented ease of integration with all compensating WG configs, because it markets as VPN gateway, and of very little use on-the-go.

I guess GL-iNet will ignore this because the feature "VPN Obfuscation" was already rejected on their list of features.

Click on item "Rejection" on the list available here.

Gents, I built amnezia ipks for official GL.iNET firmware (op24-4.6.6, MT3000 only): GitHub - xa0c-net/amnezia-glinet-mt3000: Amnezia package for official MT3000 firmware
Having this, you can keep original GL's UI and use Amnezia (via luci interface). Original VPN (WG/OpenVPN form GL's VPN settings page) keeps working and have more priority than Amnezia.

I'm too lazy to reverse GL's UI to add 'cute settings page', maybe someone else will do it.

Take this into consideration, please.

You don't need anything from GL.iNET team to use this ipks, you can install it on your MT3000 router with official op24-4.6.6 firmware (here)
