[Feature request] Replace Wireguard with AmneziaWG

They could add this feature by default.

They can add this feature on other products (like Flint2)

They could add AmneziaWG to work as server in their routers.

They cannot. They will get shut down. Do not forget that they are in China, And some things are not allowed. You can't do this. The company will get raided and shut down in 2 days. Or maybe I'm totally wrong but this is why they rejected the idea to begin with. I don't think the CCP will take too friendly to bypassing the firewall. . .

It is not about government.

We just think AmneziaWG is not ready for us to integrate.

Question is also how long this project gets maintained, there could be a sudden disappearance or when the project owner no longer uses it, i.e detected by country, such things can be abandoned quickly.

Also i wonder how different is amneziawg compared with for example daita by mullvad?

It seems like they both add noise?

there is source code too.

My hope is, that some time in the future one or all of this projects/hacks get integrated into the wireguard main source (including official support).

Please add support for Amnezia Wireguarg (AWG). Its just an extension for Wireguard, so not much to do. You do not have to replace WG. Its very important for counties with strict VPN blocking.
Thank you

Please develop support to Amnezia in all GL in routers. I own a MT3000. It is a matter of time that providers will block wireguard or report to companies

I am not in a restrictive country and I have had issues using with an ISP and having to access no via mobile network.

If there is w guide we can follow or install packages from trustworthy places that would help

Mullvad is not even working on basic things, like YouTube.

This is their answer:

Simply changing VPN protocols isn't enough to bypass firewalls. Censors (countries, hotels, restaurants, cruise ships,....) often block known VPN IP addresses and known ports (1194, 51820). While switching to a less common protocol or port might help initially, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) can still identify the unique characteristics of VPN traffic.

This is where AmneziaWG comes in. It's a modified version of WireGuard designed to evade DPI. AmneziaWG achieves this by altering WireGuard's packet headers and sizes, making the traffic resemble regular internet activity.

To maximize your chances to work around blocking, ensure you're using your own server with an IP not present on any VPN blocklist, use a non-standard port plus use AmneziaWG to obfuscate your traffic. Personally i use this in countries like China, Russia, and Egypt, It is working now, but this might change in the near future.

Never had issues with my German Mullvad servers.

But as they said - and they are correct - if someone decides to block all VPN servers, they can easily do. The addresses are known.

What is the criteria for «ready» and «not ready»? I dont get it.

The thing is, many people use routers in Iran, Russia, China and another restrictive environments, where the VPN solutions, integrated in GL.iNet are not working.

Once again, — ALL VPN solutions are NOT WORKING. Like, AT ALL. Solutions, which were created to bypass restrictions are USELESS. Just visit those countries and check yourself. You might just delete those VPN/Wireguard things and nothing will change.

That is why we are crying here.

We don't even ask for VLESS, singbox and other modern solutions, which might be hard to implement and we understand that.

We are asking for almost the same solution (or even replacing), which you guys have ALREADY in firmware. Yea, in ideal world firmware would also have singbox and so on, but pareto principle is in charge here: 20% work on AmneziaWG will get things working for 80% people.

Sorry for being edgy, thats an anger not on you guys personally, but the governments. Thanks for amazing work!

Did you already try to run AmneziaWG on the router itself without proper integration?

I’m using AWG on MT-3000 daily (with original firmware + custom awg module I compiled). Everything works well (I’m using my router as a travel router in many countries, including Russia)

Hello friend, I really need to configure AWR on my GL inet AXT1800 router, tell me is this possible?

I'd really appreciate a mini-tutorial on this, might be useful for my upcoming China trip.

I can not make you better tutorial than README file on github
There is nothing else to explain, it is pretty straightforward: you will install and setup amnezia, then use your router as usual (with GL.iNET’s UI, including fast and cozy WiFi connection/switching).

With vanilla OpenWRT firmware only (no GL.iNET UI), a lot of links above in this thread describes ‘how’.

Great, thanks!

I'll check it out.

It seems NordVPN is using a sort of similar protocol:

But the source is not available - at least i did not find anything. Then you have to wait for nordvpn to port it to platform xxxxx and nobody can check if it is really secure.
