Firmware 4.6.2 / New DNS Options

Hello,

Can the DEV's tell me which options are the most secure for my situation. I'm using firmware 4.6.2 on a few different GL Inet routers and I use these routers for only one purpose, that is to connect to my VPN provider of choice and provide me with worry free VPN connectivity across all my devices. I do not use any other feature of the router, just the VPN connection.

In regards to the new DNS options offered with firmware 4.6.2, what are the best options to select to prevent any sort of DNS leakage. I included a screenshot of the options offered and what I am currently using. Please give me feedback, any feedback is welcome.

Can anyone answer this?

Just use whatever DNS is supplied with your VPN profile since the default works as is.

If you encounter any DNS leaks, it's most likely due to the following:

  • DNS leaked through WebRTC on Browser
  • Using ISP DNS
  • Apps configured to bypass DNS
  • Misconfiguration on your end
  • Misconfiguration on VPN provider's end

If developers can chime in here and explain these options in the DNS settings page and tell me what they do... etc.

Hi,

Keep default settings and enable the VPN client.

Thanks Bruce.

Since these options are new and that we do not have documentation to explain what they actually do, what is the default? Nobody can tell me what the actually defaults are? It is all over the place...

There's a info popup next to each label stating what they do. Are you trying to understand the technicalities of what each option changes and impacts?

The defaults are defaults for a reason so it's plug and play for everyone while ensuring security.

If you aren't sure what settings to change, I would advise to just completely reset and start from scratch. Because while we can provide you default options for this specific page, these options also impact other settings as well which can decrease security.
