[Flint 2] 2025 — best firmware for ExFat storage support?

What is the best Flint 2 firmware for ExFat support?

Following up on this previous thread here (auto-closed), I'm wondering what the latest is.

Back in November last year, I was advised to use 4.6.6-OP24, which indeed made ExFat work. It wasn't stable at all, but at least it worked unreliably. The OP24 versions that followed and all non-open source versions completely broke ExFat for me and others on the forum (e.g., only a small fraction of drive contents were shown, no writes were possible, etc.).

Hi

May we know did you try test this on the latest firmware yet (4.8.1 beta or 4.8.0-op24)?
If possible, please try upgrading without preserving configuration, as this helps rule out any interference from previous settings.

If it still doesn’t work, could you tell us the folder path that isn’t showing up?
Also, does this happen only on your Mac, or do you see the same issue on other devices like iPhone/Android or Windows?

I still need to test this on 4.8.x. I still had the issue on 4.7.x.

I had only tested on MacOS. I will also try Android if there are still issues on Mac.

By the way, I noticed that the Samba root users have a login shell in /etc/passwd.

It’s not an issue, because no login password is set in /etc/shadow, but it would probably be cleaner to only give them a /bin/false shell.

Thank you very much for your suggestion.
We’ll make a note of it and pass it along to our product and R&D teams so they can consider it for future improvements.
