I am just thinking to upgrade my garden and want to install 2nd router Flint 2. Does this router is safe with plastic waterproof box and extended Internet cable from 1st router Flint 2? Will be work same SSID + password and full control LAN network?
Thanks
Im not a pro on this, but i think aslong the box is clear from the water or air it should be fine, you might want to look to something ip67 compliance, maybe a circuit box for outside.
My worry is the metals may oxidize due to moist and air so in the holes you may want some rubber rings with these rubber things which close it, and you may want to look to special rj45 cables and dc power cables too.
Though i have seen something on gl-inet discord a while ago, some people used technical suit cases or it looked like that, i guess they can help you better at this๐, but i cannot remember when or who said this.
If you put it in a closed box, it cannot dissipate the heat anymore. There is a risk of overheating especially when the sun is shining on the box.
There is no official IP rating on the product and as such I would say no, it's not outdoor rated.
That doesn't stop you putting it outside thought, like anything, you can do what you want but it doesn't mean it's right.
If your not using the VPN features I wouldn't gamble with the flint 2. Use / buy the mango V2 - smaller, less heat and inexpensive if it breaks. With it being far smaller you could then put it in a IP65 (or higher IP rating NOT lower) box, there will be far more room too. Put a few silica gel packets inside too to help with moisture and place it in a shaded location and if possible sheltered.
I would also think about a snap on design. Think about if you want to bring unit inside over winter for example. I must admit I think of all different scenarios so I could go on and on but that's my take on it.
Thanks, guys for your advice.
I thought I could buy a box with IP65 or IP67 and leave it inside the gazebo (under the roof).
But I don't know which is the best box material - plastic or metal. Also, inside the box, I need to add power UK sockets for the LED light and outdoor heater.
@staff do you have a plan for an outdoor router in the future?
Many thanks
Plastic. Metal box might need some grounding and would probably interfere with WiFi signal too. So plastic is the best choice. Why wouldn't you just use / purchase the mango v2 like I mentioned? It would consume less power and be far cheaper to replace if it was to get damaged in adverse weather. It's also small with internal antennas.
Granted you probably have the 2nd flint but even so, I'd rather have a cheap brick as opposed to a pricey one.
Thanks for the advice. I already have 2nd Flint 2 which never opened. So I decide to install 2nd router for the garden. My 1st router (Flint 2) can not reach signal WiFi in the garden.
I might make another small box for the POE switch which I have CCTV outside cable then extend rj45 cable to the gazebo. But I don't know if 2nd router will work with access point mode?
It does.
Network > Network mode > Access Point.
Another question, does that router support protocol IEEE802.3 af/at? I am just thinking of buying a POE Extender for one POE CCTV and Flint 2...
No, it does not support PoE.
You could use a passive PoE injector like these.

Another question, access point mode does effect version flint2? I just tried open new router flint2 and I did not update version, just plugin lan5 to wan. Access point mode I can control UI.
I don't really understand the question, sorry.
I have main router Flint 2 and version 4.5.6 (IP address 192.168.20.1)
2nd router Flint 2 (access point) and version 4.5.2 (IP address 192.168.20.123).
So that access point does effect anything versions? Should I upgrade to 4.5.6 (manual)?
This firmware must be plenty for only AP usage
As long as the feature is built-in, you don't need to upgrade.
However: Keeping devices up-to-date is mostly the recommend way.
I thought new version which improve WiFi things?
I did access point same ssid as main router. Even I can control 2nd router with UI.
Showing one ssid and 4 WiFi with deferent ranges. Almost looks like mesh
