Flint 2 download speed question

I have just received my new Flint 2 router, set up has been pretty easy and I have updated to the latest 4.7.0 firmware.

I have 900Mbps Fibre Broadband but when I do a Fast.com or an Ookla speedtest I get around 95Mbps download speed.
WiFi is all switched off so I am using a wired network.

I assume something somewhere is not set right but so far I cannot see it. I have tried 'Network Acceleration' enabled and disabled but no significant change.

Just a guess. 95Mbps looks like a 100Mbps ethernet connection.

What causes 1Gbps to drop to 100Mbps?

  • 100Mbps ethernet interface set
  • 100Mbps UTP cable (CAT ?, not all strands OK ? 1Gbps needs all 8 conductors)
  • Failed negotiation between ethernet ports
  • Too long cable, too low cable CAT category
  • Cable sharp bent, incorrect connector placement

I had thought it was suspiciously like a 100Mbps connection but the same 3 cables were swapped off another router on a 2.5Gb WAN, 2.5Gb LAN and 1Gb LAN to this Flint 2 (in the same speed ports), I swapped them back and I'm back to a 935Mbps download speed.
I will re-swap out the cables to see if that makes a difference but I am fairly certain thay are all at least Cat 6.

There is something strange going on, back on my Asus router now and generally everything is fine but intermittently things are not OK, web pages won't load and even the (Asus) router is unavailable. No idea what is going on - but seemingly not a Flint 2 issue anyways!

Do or did you use AiCloud on the Asus router?

That seems a strange question, but no I have never used AiCloud

On your ISP modem, hold the reset button for 15-20 seconds.

In my past experience, some ISP modems need to be reset or power cycled when they are connected to a new router. It has to do with IP not being properly released and re-Rebinding to a new router or MAC address, and in the process could cause various issues.

If that doesn't work, unplug the power from ISP modem for 15-20 minutes and power it up again.

And flash your router with firmware using UBoot.

Flint 2 is flying along now, I'm still not sure what is/was wrong, possibly a faulty ethernet port (on a switch) or cable.

Asus's AiCloud service recently got hacked and was causing people to have issues with their routers. Based on your description of the issues you are having with your Asus router I thought maybe this malware could have been cause. Anyway, if you are interested in "fixing" the router, an upgrade to the latest firmware and then a factory reset after the firmware upgrade may bring it back to normal operation.

As far as is possible AiCloud is switched off, and always has been and although I have not done a factory reset it is running the latest firmware
