Router is not Nas. Make split device such like raspberry pi

Why do you think it has an USB port?? If you want me to use raspberry pi then please buy me one and I will use it as NAS.

Yes, we can do everything by SSH...
But adding this feature in the user interface is much better and easier.

Yeah, I agree. At the same time, I would like to see that the NAS "feature" gets kicked because currently it's not safe nor deeply integrated. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

It's just a basic feature and needs way more love - or getting kicked out, imho.

Printer can use usb.
Modem dongle can use usb.
Mobile can use usb.

It's a fantastic feature and very useful.

Even basic routers from most ISP have this feature.

Hard Drive can use USB, its right there in GUI! Do you even own a GL router??

Not with the current samba settings. They are insecure and high security risk.

I guess they'll be downloading a lot of porn from my hard drive. Oh well I hope they enjoy it.

Its an old issue and seems to have been fixed 2 years ago.

It‘s not about this. It‘s about the config which uses SMBv1 by default. Which is … stupid.

Yes you can use usb storage but not recommend over 2 tb. Because not enough power thing than priority CPU for WiFi and small issue about shield usb port.
Yes I have GL router.

So, @bruce should take a look on their default settings

Can you change the default configuration?

This feature on Beta 4.7.0 is iknteresting:
"...Added USB Port Protocol Conversion function, allowing downgrading to use USB 2.0..."

Do you think enough speed with usb 2.0 ? What for storage is? Media up to low bitrate 1080p?

It's a router and not a media center
It's just to share files between the computers in your home

Power thing over 2TB?? Please enlighten me.

The GL firmware network share is based on the plugins Samba4, and it default uses the v1 protocol, probably for the compatibility I assume, but you can config to v2 or v3:

vi /etc/samba/smb.conf
server protocol = SMB3 or server protocol = SMB2
/etc/init.d/samba4 restart

If Samba is only used within the router trusted LAN, probably there is no need to worry about it and no need to change this protocol.

Unfortunately, I have to strongly disagree. SMBv1 has not been secure for many years and therefore threatens all Windows systems that connect with SMBv1.

Since some users also use GL.iNet routers for professional purposes or even in companies, it must be clear that SMBv1 opens up a huge security gap there. WannaCry or NotPetya are still familiar to some.

SMBv1 should only be used in absolutely exceptional cases and under high security precautions (2 firewalls, i.e. “DMZ”).

We are worried that if the server protocol is set to v2 by default, some OS or clients may have compatibility problems, such as inability to establish connections and slow rates.

Let's see what users’ feedback if server protocol uses v2?
GL will listen to the user's voice, and the GL firmware can be updated to default to v2
