I have noticed it happens after dnsmasq dhcp 192.168.8.208, but that ip adress is listed as an offline client. Also have not figured out which device it could be, it is listed as 5g connection.

Try turning off Hardware (Network) Acceleration or roll back to 4.7.7

Hello,

Please try installing the latest firmware for the MT6000:

4.8.2 is the latest firmware, your asking @angelo to install a beta firmware which is not good in my opinion.

Hi, turn it off all together or use software acceleration?

Hi, what is changed in the beta software that resolves the issue i have and not add to it?

Hi, why roll back to 4.7.7? is that version more stable?

It was for me. But turn on software acceleration and see if it works for you.

I see 4.8.3 has been promoted to stable for this device - but no mention in the release logs whether it addresses the connectivity issue some of us have been seeing or not.

Sorry for I miss some explanations for the firmware.

Firmware v4.8.3 improves the problem about slow loading of web pages with hardware acceleration enabled, so we hope to install v4.8.3 firmware to test if it works well.

Currently v4.8.3 is the latest stable version, @angelo please upgrade to this version for your Flint2. Thanks!

Hi. I have been having an issue with very similar symptoms since 4.8.2. Switching from hardware acceleration to software acceleration didn’t work. Upgrading to 4.8.3 didn’t work. Backing up config, factory-resetting, then restoring config didn’t work either. Any other pointers?

Hello,

Please confirm whether the problem you are encountering is web page access slowing, some images of web page cannot be loaded, etc. And please explain how to reproduce the issue?

  1. Please upgrade your Flint2 to v4.8.3 firmware without keep settings.
  2. Please share your router with us via GoodCloud, I think I would like to remote check your router.
Technical Support via GoodCloud - GL.iNet Router Docs 4
Please PM me your router MAC address and the Admin Panel password.

Hi Bruce,

The issue I encountered was that DNS requests frequently timed out with/out AdGuard Home, web page load slowing down or timing out, pinging has 30% - 100% packet loss, … Connectivity with other LAN devices (including one NAS) seems to still function.

Regarding your suggestions:

  • I will try 4.8.3 without config restoring. Unfortunately I only have one Flint 2 as my main router, I've made tons of config changes and I need those for work so I could only be able to test this for a duration of several hours.
  • For the same reason, plus the use of VPN and sometimes Tailscale, unfortunately I'm afraid I cannot give you the access to the router. Please let me know of things I could try on my own. If access to the router is absolutely necessary to diagnose the issue, I’d need to get a backup router first.

Hello,

Based on your description, it seems that the router has enabled many functions in your scenario, it does not matter, as the normal expectation is that the router should operation normally even if all functions are enabled.

We may need to troubleshoot for each enabled function. At present, we can rule out that the problem is on the LAN side. Let us put the test direction on the WAN side.

For example, first upgrade to v4.8.3 with brand new installation (no keep settings), in the default configuration, check whether occur the DNS timeout, web access slow, ping loss (ping ISP DNS and ping 8.8.8.8, etc.
Then enable the functions you need one by one, and then check again.

If it is not convenient for you to share the router with us via GoodCloud, you can export your current configuration backup and PM to me. I will import it locally to my MT6000 for testing. Please let me know the GL GUI login password.

If you share the router, we can communicate the time. We won't do any debugging while you work until you take a break.

Hi Bruce,

Sounds like a plan. I’ll try a fresh v4.8.3 installation first and report back. Let’s see how we would go from there. Thank you!

Hey,

So I managed to quickly borrow a router, performed reflash without keeping the settings. Within the first few minutes, nothing was abnormal. Accessing websites worked, pinging worked, no packet loss or timeout. Speedtest from speedtest.net worked and the speeds were adequate.

Then I started to make light changes to the config:

  • Changing wireless SSID & password, disabling the 2GHz band, enabling 2 GHz and 5 GHz guest.
  • Static-leasing a few MACs (Network > LAN > Address Reservation).
  • Updating static hosts (Network > DNS > Edit Hosts).

Somewhere down the line, the issue happened, i.e. connection became flaky, pings got timed out or couldn’t route, DNS resolution sometimes worked but mostly didn’t, speedtest worked 1 out of 6-7 times. I tried making the same config changes one by one. The issue seemed to happened randomly - I couldn’t pin point which one of the above might potentially be the culprit.

I’ll PM you the config archive. Let’s start with that first if it’s okay with you? Considering that WAN connection is extremely flaky, I doubt if remoting via GoodCloud would even work.

Unfortunately I’m not able to PM you yet (I guess since my account doesn’t have the corresponding trust level yet). Would you mind sending me a message first so I could reply with the config and GL admin password? :folded_hands:

Sure, I PMed to you
