Flint 2 listening on ports I did not configure

Hi,

So I have taken a look at my firewall configuration and also have a Firewalla box connected to my flint 2 that confirms my router is listening on ports 6000, 6001, 6002 and 6008.

I’m not sure what would cause this to happen as i don’t really have anything connected to the router itself as i am still learning what things to configure and what not.

Anyone care to shed a light? Thank you

this depends how you check it, if it started from the source i.e lan, then a open line has been created and the external ip is allowed to communicate back.

A traditional firewall often works from one direction:

meaning if a external ip first communicated it gets blocked, but if the communication first was iniated by lan first, then the otherside is allowed to communicate back and you can kind of see it as a handshake to a open line.

^ some online games especially the p2p based ones work on the same principe, it is called port hole punching, if you are a host then you likely advertise to a server list, this opens the port for communication back to that same server list server which acts as a middle man to make people join your game.

I think that that ports are needed for the router to work properly. But, by default, all ports are closed in OpenWRT except if you open it on Port Forwarding.
