I’m hoping someone here in the UK has managed to get a GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) working properly with Vodafone Fibre via Openreach FTTP.
My setup
ISP: Vodafone Fibre (Openreach network)
Package: 910
ONT: Openreach white wall-mounted box, Ethernet from LAN 1 into Flint 2 WAN
Router: GL.iNet Flint 2 running firmware [4.8.3]
Connection type: PPPoE
VLAN: none
PPPoE credentials: from Vodafone support ([email protected], custom password)
MTU: left blank (defaults to 1500) — have also tried 1492
Hardware Acceleration / Flow Offload: enabled
VPN / AdGuard / QoS: all disabled for testing
The problem:
When I connect directly to Vodafone’s Power Hub router, I get my full line speed (around 900 Mbps).
When I connect the Flint 2 directly to the ONT with PPPoE configured, it connects fine and gets a public IP — but I only get less then half the expected speed, usually in the 300–400 Mbps range.
I’ve seen other people mention PPPoE offload issues or MTU mismatches, but haven’t found a confirmed working setup on Vodafone (Openreach) specifically — only CityFibre users with VLAN 911.
What I’ve tried
MTU 1452, 1492, (but setting any MTU stops me getting a connection)
Toggling hardware-accel settings
Latest firmware upgrade
Different Ethernet cables & ports
Disabling all extra services (AdGuard, VPN, QoS, etc.), even doing a full reset.
I really love the Flint 2’s features and want to ditch the Vodafone router entirely, but right now it’s not performing as expected on PPPoE.
Could you please provide us with a few more details about this issue?
How did you perform the speed test?
If it was done via Wi-Fi, please try using a wired connection and select some nearby speed test server for more wide/accurate results.
When you changed the MTU to a lower value, did any error message appear, or did the PPPoE connection simply fail to establish?
Have you tried cloning the MAC address of the Vodafone Power Hub router?
I have used a Flint 2 on Vodafone UK FTTP. What you need to do is use the black Ethernet cable that come with the flint 2 and plug this into the ONT, then plug the other end into the WAN port on the flint 2.
With a factory reset Flint 2, when it boots up it will ask you for the username and password for the pppoe connection. Enter these and alter no other settings.
Once the connection is established run a speed test via a cable directly connected to your pc or laptop to check the speed. This will rule out anything you have changed.
