Hi all,
I get my flint 2 delivered tomorrow. I’m going to be setting my router up so all devices will be using a VPN. I know how to do this but unsure about having the only device, this being my PS5 to not use the VPN.
Can anyone give me instructions on how to stop my PS5 from using the VPN? I will be using the gl-inet firmware as this seems easier to use.
Thanks so much
Paul
By selecting a proper VPN routing policy, see VPN Dashboard - GL.iNet Router Docs 4
So my understanding is that once connected to a vpn on the flint 2, I would go to the policy mode, add all the device MAC addresses into that policy that will use the vpn. I would exclude putting the MAC address of the ps5 into that list so it does not use the vpn.
Does this seem right?
Thanks
You can only use one policy.
And then either specify:
-
Do not use vpn for x devices
-
Or use vpn for devices
^ this depends on the choosen policy, mac/device policy might be the best one.
But you cannot combine them both like that.
It's not my business to ask but why would you want the ps5 to bypass vpn?
If you play online games you really want a vpn against attacks which can bring down internet, but vpn doesn't anonymize perse, alot of these vpn providers still store data, it's more marketing.
But vpn can help against middle mans and other threats.
Thanks very much for that, if I get stuck tomorrow I will ask for further assistance.
Once again, thank you!
Obviously I'm not the original poster but I thought I would give my insight, my reason to not use a VPN for a console would be for NAT - using a VPN for consoles can mean you get a strict NAT and you can't always portfoward unless the VPN provider supports it. Another reason would be speeds, latency, using your WAN will give the best results.
Yeah, I don’t want my ps5 to use the vpn as I want open nat and the best ping etc
Everything else on my network can use the vpn.
@MowMdown thanks very much for that. Really appreciate it.
I just wanted to say that I have now set up the router and connected my 30+ devices. All working amazing! im really impressed with this router, the ps5 and one or two other devices are not using my vpn and its running fantastic at the moment!
Thanks for all your assistance, and thank you to GL-iNet for such an amazing router at an affordable price!
