Flint GL-AX1800 firmware - still being updated?

I’ve had a Flint AX1800 for a couple of years now. I see the “stable” firmware has stopped at 4.6.8 from 2024-10-17 (though I think there were some 4.7.x but they got pulled?).

There is a beta 4.8.3 from 2025-12-26: is this actually “ok” to use? Are there any plans to update this “stable” firmware? Or is it now beyond support?

At this point if I were you would give it a try, can't be worse right?

Suggestion, start from scratch reset the router wipe clean, good luck :call_me_hand:

I want to upgrade mine also, I’m at 4.6.8 with no actual issues, but I do see some bug fixes in the next stable version V4.8.2 which tempts me to upgrade.

However sanity check here, can I give this a try with keeping current settings because there is no note about a problem upgrading.

The release notes say to not keep config when DOWNGRADING…??

Release Notes

V4.8.2

Cautions

The OpenWRT version has been upgraded. Please do NOT keep settings when downgrading to an earlier version. Please backup your settings first.

I would go wipe clean, but thas just me :call_me_hand:

Following up.

I followed the release notes, accepting that they only mean when DOWNGRADING.

The upgrade works like a charm, feel free to keep setting it worked fine for me.

Where do you see 4.8.2? There is no such version for Flint ax1800?

Ah sorry!

I meant to say the axT1800. Looks like I came in on totally wrong thread here, sorry.

Freaking crappy naming conventions…

No worries

my question was more to glinet about their future support plans for this router… are you guys “done” releasing stable firmware or can we expect more?

Just in case they decide to EOL the Flint1…You can always do real OpenWRT…I’ve had mine running on the real thing since it was first released on the OpenWRT Firmware selector..

Hi

No worries—we’re still planning to release a v4.8.3 stable version for the AX1800. It’s currently in the testing phase, may take a bit more time.

As for the beta version, the core functionality should generally be fine, but there may be some minor issues in certain details. If you run into anything that affects overall usability, you can always downgrade back to the current version.

Nice good to know, I have I’m on v4.8.3 beta, so far quite good. I noticed that There is only 2 repo when I go to LUCI and try to find updates. Tailscale is quite old package for example?

The Tailscale version upgrade is already on the roadmap.

For now, you can use Admon’s script to update it:

Hi,

Just got the flint, my firmware current version is 4.7.13, release1 compiled 2025-06-26.

Should I be using this firmware version? I don’t see it listed anywhere but in the first post on this thread.

thanks,

Jimmy D

Hi

You can continue using this version. It is a custom version for certification, which is why it is not listed in the download center.

Do we have an ETA for the release?

Thank you for the help

I’ve been running the beta 4.8.3 for a few weeks now and it’s been great. I was after the ipv6 VPN functionality which has been fine. In the absence of a “stable” release, this has been adequate for me.

Do you mean the expected release date for the AX1800 v4.8 firmware?

There isn’t a specific timeline yet, but it should be soon.
As mentioned earlier, the release version is already in the testing phase. If no major issues are found, it may be available by the end of this month.

For now, you can try the v4.8 beta version first.
