Hi all,
I plan to upgrade from 4.7.7 to 4.8.2. If I dump the current pkg list, configs, perform an upgrade and compare after the upgrade what I have in the image vs what I had and add the missing ones, will this be enough?
I’m aware firsthand that upgrading installed packages unless using plain OpenWrt is not recommended.
Many thanks in advance for input

I would suggest to not update to 4.8.2.
For details, please refer to:
Anyone else experiencing slow pages loading, time-outs, no pics after 4.8.2 update (up from 4.8.1) on GL-MT6000?
It’s like not every web page, but rather once in 10-15 pages, totally randomly.
Don’t even know how to troubleshoot it. Just wanted to see if someone already made conclusion.
@Franz thanks for the warning. I will follow your advice and not upgrade. However can you please confirm that my concept is right
create a backup archive with configurations
create a backup package installation list
upgrade with keeping settings on if the same minor branch is used - e.g. 4.7.6 to 4.7.7
upgrade without keeping ssettingss if switching to newer - e.g. 4.5 to 4.7

You are welcome.
My settings are basic, when I install a new firmware I prefer to go through a factory reset.
I'll leave that to more experienced users.
thank you. Looking back to what I’ve been through I will follow the routine established:
prior to each upgrade - no matter which version - dump package list, create backups, screenshot critical settings
when doing major upgrades - dump package lists, create backup, reset settings to factory defaults and start from thre
system
