Fritzbox 7590 2x FW 7.56
GL INET FLint 1800 ax 2 x
Open WRT 4.2.1
Hello all,
I have four routers Fritzbox 7590 and gave two to my children. For this I have now bought two GL INET 1800 FLINT and equipped with OPNEVPN. I have as master the 7590 and behind it the first Flint. From there network cables go into the other routers. My question:
Why can’t I call both routers Fritzbox 7590 master (192.169.178.1) and the Flint (192.168.178.2) separately? The end devices get the IP 192.168.8.xx from the Flint.
I have given all routers the same SSID and the same passwords (on all floors where there is a router). With Mesh I could click on a router and immediately get to the router or some end devices, with the Flint this is not possible. Why is this and how can I change it?

==> do you want the end devices to get the IP 192.168.178.xx from the Flint? Maybe you try to use the Access Point mode in the Network → Network Mode web page

==> FLint 1800 is not support mesh
I think I may not understand your question, if so please point it out.
I have another GL INET Flint 1800 in the attic. I cannot access and programme the box from downstairs. Only when I am in the WLAN area of the Flint upstairs can I access the WEB interface of this box.
Is there any other way to control this box in the network?
This was never a problem with the connected Fritzboxes.
Far too much routers. Don’t you think AP is what you wan?
Mesh is a special AVM thing. I am very unhappy they don’t talk real mesh (802.11s - standard). But this is not your problem. This feature just steer the devices while moving.
So we have
ISP -(Fiber)- Any CPE -(LAN)- Wan of a FB. Let’s call it FB1.
The FB has up to 4 LAN ports, they are generally in Switch mode, although one can be changed to ‘Guest Network’. I assume we have 4 switched ports.
You’ve got 2 Flint, both are connected to a LAN port (yellow) of the FB1?
The standard IP of AVM is 192.168.178.0/24. The FB itself gets the 1. The default DHCP range is 100 to 199.
The Flint1 will get a LAN Cable from FB1/LAN1 to Flint1/WAN.
The Flint2 will get a LAN Cable from FB1/LAN2 to Flint2/WAN.
Now, every device, connected to FB1 can access the FB website at 192.168.178.1.
Every device from Flint1 can access the Flint1 website at 192.168.8.1 and the FB1 website at 192.168.178.1.
Every device from Flint2 can access the Flint2 website at 192.168.8.1 and the FB1 website at 192.168.178.1.
This is the default setting in router mode. Both flints get IPs via DHCP from the FB1. Even fritz.box should work there.
First setting I recommend do set Flint2 to 192.168.9.0/24 … Two identical subnet will be a problem at some point.
If you’d like to reach the Flint Website from the FB1, I only find a manual to go over Wireguard/Good cloud/AstroRelay. But I am pretty sure there is a simple switch, like ‘allow Admin panel from WAN’ in the Admin panel.
I’ll take a look, when I am home again.
You wanted to access the Admin Panels of the Flint’s via FB1 net, correct?
One way to archive it: In the GL-Inet Flint ‘Admin panel’ go to ‘Network - Firewall - Open Ports on Router’ → (+ Add)
Name: Admin Panel
Protocol: TCP
Port: 80
Enable: True
Now lookup the IP at ‘Internet - Ethernet - IP Address’. You can assign a static IP in the FB1 DHCP, linked to your MAC.
Now you can reach the Admin Panel of your Flint at http://192.168.178.xxx … where xxx is the DHCP assigned IP.
But once again: Do you need 2 double NAT? Your kids will not be happy if they are using a Switch/Xbox/Playstation behind this configuration.
You could also go to the Flints Admin Panel, see at the first page ‘Ethernet’ and below an option should be ‘Using WAN, change to LAN’ … Than you’ll have one big subnet. In this side the same as AVM Mesh.
Yes, I am from Germany. Is my English such bad?
But it is not helpful to switch language. A lot of people around the world are helping here all together.
Downstairs on the ground floor I have the Fritz and the Flint with VPN. If I now go to the assigned IP address of the Fritzbox, my laptop dials up to the Fritz or to the Flint (both devices on the ground floor).
I want two ore more Clients to manage all Routers… But when you say the AP is better for me, i can change it.
Can you tell me when i change in the AP Mode, can i go to the Web Interface from all Routers in this Network ore all Routers are not availible? Only my Master Router? Is an AP better than the CLient?
Curios, i want to use my VPN in my First FLINT. The First Flint have VPN and it become the Internet over my FB 7590. My Computer / Laptop switch permanently from Master Fritzbox to Flint with VPN, booth Routers are in the Ground Floor… All Routers have the Same SSID and the Same Wifi Channels (Heval 2,4 and Heval 5) with the same password.
And where can i find this option in flint?? I dont find it…
Net1 is FB1 - 192.168.178.0/24
Net2 is Flint1 - 192.168.8.0/24
So if your Laptop has any DHCP IP in the Net1 (/24 means the same as 255.255.255.0), let’s say 192.168.178.101, it can reach every device in this Net1. Also the Flint with the assigned WAN IP, let’s say 192.168.178.100.
But as we done before for the Web interface, the Flint1 Firewall needs to be opened to the WAN port. All ports are closed by default, because security. A Router normally should not trust the WAN traffic.
192.168.178.101 (Laptop) can speak to every device within its net. So it will send a request to the 192.168.178.100 at the VPN port. The firewall is blocking it. So we add a rule, like before.
But than the VPN Client needs to know that it should listen to WAN, as well… Here I am out. If I want a service I install a VM on my proxmox cluster. I don’t know how to do this on an embedded device.
If you decide to put all in one LAN (I called it AP before, not 100% correct), just make a backup of your config.
Than go the the first page at the Flint1 admin panel, there should be ‘Internet’ be the 1st block. Down below is something like ‘change to LAN’.
With this button the WAN port will be changed and the Flint1 is one extra device in your LAN. You can access it like any NAS, Mediacenter, … No firewall configurations.
But make sure there is only one DHCP server active! Best is the FB as DHCP, because it knows the WAN to your ISP.
Maybe your Flint is getting another DHCP address. I would do this from a device, wired to the FB. Here you can see if the Flint1 is active unter ‘Heimnetzwerk’.
All devices, connected to the Flint1 needs a DHCP renew (on windows open a CMD and type ipconfig /renew or reboot the whole system), this is not an error.
You will loose the AdGuard feature. But I think the advantage in your environment overrule this little bad point.
Hey
But as we done before for the Web interface, the Flint1 Firewall needs to be opened to the WAN port. All ports are closed by default, because security. A Router normally should not trust the WAN traffic.
How can i open The WAN Port in the Flint? Like this?
One way to archive it: In the GL-Inet Flint ‘Admin panel’ go to ‘Network - Firewall - Open Ports on Router’ → (+ Add)
Name: Admin Panel
Protocol: TCP
Port: 80
Enable: True
I can’t switch from WAN to LAN because it always says disconnect cable from WAN (Flint). I do that but nothing happens.
It is a bit confusing.
Port is the physical port where you plug in the cable. But port is also the network port, a service is listening that needs to be accessible.
In your firewall you can’t open the physical port, you need to open the network port for the service.
But this is all not what you want. You want ‘Extender’ Mode, see
