GL-A1300 - Tailscale - Route only certain devices through exit node

Hi All,

Recently purchased a Slate Plus (A1300) travel router primarily so that I can connect multiple devices to my Tailscale network and route them through an exit node before reaching the wider internet.

I've successfully set up Tailscale on the A1300 and everything connects to my network and uses the exit node without issue. However, I'd like to configure the network such that only certain devices route through Tailscale and the exit node, with other devices bypassing the Tailscale network entirely and just connecting to the internet directly.

I've tried using the A1300 in both drop-in gateway mode and pure AP mode but haven't found a way of getting it to work as desired. In drop-in gateway configuration all traffic goes through the Tailscale exist node, and in AP mode the router itself joins Tailscale but any connected devices don't.

Finally the ISP router needs to remain in the chain; I can't just replace it with the slate plus.

Does anybody know if what I want to do is possible? I'm pretty tech savvy and have spent time ssh'd onto the router but this is my first foray into OpenWrt.

Thanks in advance!

Slate Plus - GL-A1300 - v4.5.17

Unable to specify the client.
It is recommended to try the guest WiFi, it bypasses Tailscale network by default.

Thanks for your response Bruce. Do you know of any other GL.iNet products that do support the functionality I'm after? If not then I may just have to get stuck in to OpenWrt and see if I can make something happen.

thank you as well, GL firmware based on GL SDK, so there are no differences about the Tailscale of all GL routers. Please try to search in the Luci, and we are glad to hear your share if you find the way to get it.
