As the title implies, I have both the GL-AR300M-ext (Ext) and the GL-MT300N-V2 (Mango). I’ve come across something odd. I setup the Ext to simply be a WiFi router to connect a printer (Canon Pixma TS3722) to wirelessly so that I can print from a laptop or iOS. It works great.
I then setup the Mango and configured it EXACTLY the same as the Ext (same firmware too) but for some odd reason, the printer WILL NOT connect to the Mango with all configuration & settings the same as they are in the Ext.
Could some one please assist me in getting the printer to connect to the Mango just like it does with the Ext? Or at least explain why this isn’t working…
I attached a pic of the settings in question.
I have a hunch that it has something to do with the security / encryption… I recall seeing somewhere that for this specific printer, it will not work with WPA2-PSK (and other -PSK variants) due to security vulnerabilities. The weird thing is, in the picture I’ve attached, you can see that the security is set to WPA2-PSK… this works with the Ext but not with the Mango.
I just looked in the spot you referenced and there is no drop-down allowing me to change the country code. All that’s there is an option called “Isolate Clients” with a check box to the left of it.
I do see a country code listed in the Status box at the top of the page under Network > Wireless, it’s currently 00.
I forgot to mention in the original post that my iPhone and laptop both connect to the Mango with no problem, it’s just the printer that’s being a weirdo.
I hope that helps.
Also, this Mango has firmware 4.3.17 (I made its firmware match that of the Ext thinking it might help matters)… I did try upgrading to 4.3.18 but it didn’t fix the issue.
Edit: just looked at the same screens on the Ext and there actually is an advanced tab at the top under Network > Wireless and it does have a country code option. The Mango doesn’t have nearly as many options in this area as the Ext.
The MT300N-V2 uses closed source WIFI drivers, and only supports a subset of the WIFI commands available in AR300M open sources drivers. MT routers use the MediaTek chipset, normally with closed source drivers.
I purchased one GL iNet router with the MT chipset, and had nothing but problems with it. My AR devices are all much more stable and the WIFI is more configurable.
So basically, it’s a hardware issue that can’t be fixed with changing settings or a different release of open wrt? That sucks. Thanks for all the info though everybody!!
I don't know if this will work, but have you tried clear the Wi-Fi settings on the printer and then connect again?
It's hard to imagine compatibility issues between MediaTek N300 driver and Canon printer. It might be a driver issue, but if they can't communicate at all, I think it's more likely because of the saved BSSID.
