Gl-AR300M Visible network connection issue

I am having an issue connecting to visible networks, I am able to connect to hidden networks of all kind but if the network is visible I am not able to.

Please help.

EDIT: I am not able to connect to networks that are visible and require a password. I am able to connect to visible open networks.

What is the wifi network? Do you have any detailed info?

I only got cases that the router cannot connect to hidden network sometimes.

Pretty basic WPA2-PSK, but anything that requires a password and visible is failing. I am able to connect to open networks, and if I make a network hidden I can connect to it then.

What is also interesting is that if I associate with the network while hidden, I am able to associate to it when afterward hidden or visible.

When you try to connect to visible network SSID, do you get prompted to enter a WPA2-PSK password? If so, what happens after you enter the password?

I do not work for and I do not have formal association with GL.iNet

I am able to put in the password, but it just doesn’t associate.

If there is any other info you need, I am happy to provide it. I have tried getting into the console and associating to the wifi through wpa_cli, it just seems to time out over time. Other devices can connect to the wifi in question and I have confirmed that the password is correct.

On my GL-AR300M16, I use the following wifi settings that work:

  • Wi-Fi Security = WPA2/WPA3-PSK/SAE
  • Wi-Fi Mode = 802.11b/g/n
  • Bandwidth = 20 MHz
  • Channel = 11
  • TX Power (dBm) = Max

I do not work for and I do not have formal association with GL.iNet

Can you tell me the firmwre version? If not latest, can you upgrade?

Do you start by selecting other field when you set it up?

Firmware is the latest version (3.211)

I am not sure what you mean by “selecting other field”. For wifi settings, you can just change them at anytime.

I do not work for and I do not have formal association with GL.iNet

Are you using the GUI or Luci?

I use the GL.iNet Admin Panel UI for wifi settings and other basic changes. I only use the LuCi UI for advanced functions.

My GL-AR300M16 is running firmware 3.203 and I usually do not install upgrades as soon as they are released.

I do not work for and I do not have formal association with GL.iNet

the only difference seems to be the firmware version.

Can we do this:

You send me your ssid and key that you are trying to connect. You do not need to send exactly the same but should be very similar, e.g. same length, contains the same combination of characters.

I will do a test here and check.

I can, but like I said, any visible network with a password fails. I have tried broadcasting on multiple protocols and it fails the same way everytime

WPA2-personal Network
password: pleasework!

I tested using the same password. I can connection without problem. Is there any other thing I could have missed?

New update:
i am able to associate to devices but not if it is a meshed network.

Why there is a wlan-sta2?

You set up the repeater manually?

I was trying everything, it looks like the issue is the wireless at work. For some reason it is unable to associate. I am able to hook up to everything else otherwise. Thanks again for your help. I probably need to look elsewhere to get this fixed.
