GL AXT-1800 power supply issue

After working flawlessly for 6 month, my router GL AXT-1800 went dark, means no LED, no power consumption, not responding to anything.

It was powered by a DCDC USB power outlet from a 13.4V LiFePO4 board battery on our boat and used as router.

I guess the internal power supply is toast. Any ideas how to fix it? We are currently in Papeete (french polynesia) Is there a seller in FP where we can get a new GL-AXT1800 router?

If the power supply part of the router hardware is damaged, probably needs to be returned to the factory for inspection and repair.

When using, please pay attention to the stability of the input voltage of 5V.

So the router is powered by 13.4V for 6 months?

Of course not, it is powered by a DCDC 5.1V step down converter, built in in a USB charger Car /Boat socket. This works flawlessly btw, It charges phones and tablets.

Sure, but look. The GL-AXT1800 and all the other nice products are so attractive, because they can be powered by USB / DC converters and do not need AC chargers and inverter for mobile applications in RV, Yachts etc. Would be great if you provide adapters for 12V DC systems.

But that would increase the price for the rest of the people , even who don't need USB/DC adapters for their 12v boat system. You can always buy your own.

I agree, but the response from GLi was:

If this device was purchased from our official store and is still within the two-year warranty period, I can help you in applying for warranty service. However, you will need to cover the return shipping costs, as we cannot be certain if using a USB converter has caused the device damage due to not using the original adapter.

We appreciate your understanding regarding this matter.

What politely means: use our optional AC adapter, or we cannot cover the damage.

So my request would be to provide an optional DCDC Adapter safe to use with the device on common battery setups (like 9-30V input range, 5.1V 4A output) or make the power supply inside safe to use with other 3rd party adapters.

Its not cost efficient to make an optional adapter or make it safe to use with any 3rd party adapter. The customer would end up paying more for the product.

So you think it's more cost efficient to exchange damaged routers on warranty?

It is not. But most people just use the stock adapter or a standard typeC power adapter.

If you could wait a few days/weeks, there is another router coming:

I am using the Spitz AX (GL-X3000) in my RV, and I love it can be used with 9 to 36V. I have no issues so far at my LiPoFe4 battery and no additional converters.
The Spitz AX is not cheap (549e, last time I checked), but maybe the new Spitz Plus could be an alternative for your boat, instead of a new GL-AXT1800.
And I love my AXT1800 in various situation as well, but not in my RV.

Yes it is, there will be less of them exchanged when people use proper power supply. And it doesn't cost anything extra to consumer. The cost of replacing products under warranty, has already been taken under consideration by the company. Other wise no company would offer warranty.
