GL-AXT1800 fails to get DHCP lease from Hitron EN2251

I have been working with GL.iNet support (Lucas) via email, but the thread seems to have gotten lost so please excuse the continuation here.

AXT1800 has firmware v4.6.8
Hitron EN2251 is as provided by Spectrum business. I do not have the ability to access the modem admin panel.

I have performed a factory reset on the AXT1800 and set only Language and Password for this troubleshooting event.

Beyond all the things previously tried, as suggested by Lucas, which so far have not resolved the issue, I have additional information.

First, my network for testing is:

Hitron EN2251 <-> AXT1800 <-> Mac mini All connections are by Ethernet cable. WifFi configuration of the AXT1800 works as expected but is not relevant to this setup.

The problem is the AXT1800 fails to acquire a DHCP lease or communicate with the Hitron modem.

When DHCP mode is enabled the resulting IP settings fields are all blank.

I have changed to Static mode and used settings that worked for the Mac Mini when it was connected directly to the modem.

The details on the Ethernet Settings below remain in this error condition over night. The Mac Mini is unable to access the Internet or ping the DNS addresses.

It appears the problem is not specifically in the AXT1800 because:

  1. The AXT1800 does successfully acquire a DHCP lease from a Motorola MG7550 modem/Router combo, not currently connected to Spectrum Business cable.
  2. All other devices on the LAN acquire DHCP lease from the Motorola.
  3. A Lenovo P540T laptop is also unable to acquire a DHCP lease from the Hitron modem. This machine has no problem with the Motorola modem/router.

The only difference I can see is the Hitron uses a different Gateway IP and Subnet mask 172.119.141.1 / 255.255.240.0 Compared to the Motorola 255.255.255.0 / 192.168.16.1 Both Hitron and Motorola are using DNS 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1.

Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated!

If you ping from the router itself using SSH, does it work?

Thanks @admon progress!

After configuring for ssh access I am able to ping the modem's public IP (172.119.149.105) and the AXT1800 light is now steady when the WAN port is connected to the modem.

In addition, the error condition shown in the Network > Ethernet panel is no longer present.

But I am unable to ping the Gateway address (172.119.141.1) or the DNS server or access the internet.

In preparation to calling Spectrum support I did a full power cycle/reset. Now the system is working as expected. Not sure why or what was different this time as I had done all of this several times before. Maybe I didn't wait long enough or didn't follow the exact sequence?

What I did exactly:
Power down the modem.
Disconnect Modem to AXT1800 WAN cable.
AXT1800 Admin panel > System > Reset Firmware.
Wait for Firmware reset to complete with AXT1800 light slow flashing.
Connect to AXT1800 Admin panel, set language and password.
Power up Modem wait for stable condition.
Connect Ethernet cable from modem to AXT1800 WAN port.
Wait for AXT1800 light to go steady.
All connected devices are working as expected.
