GL-AXT1800 VPN completely disappeared after upgrade to 4.2.0

Dear Community,

I just updated my AXT1800 from 4.1.0 to 4.2.0. After reboot all VPN related menu items are gone. There is no Wireguard, no OpenVPN, no VPN Dashboard. But I really need it…

When I downgrade to 4.1.0 everything is back again. So what can I do?

Thank you.

I just read the other thread and it seems that I have a Chinese version as well. But why I have VPN options in 4.1.0 and not in 4.2.0 anymore?

Is there a way to change the router to a global version to keep the VPN menu?

That’s kind of weird. Please use command to know AXT1800 region:

uci show wireless.radio0.country

I have same problem after upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2.1 my vpn panel completely disappeared and it shows CN letter next to firmware version

did you find any solution ?

I have the same problem. Adguard & VPN completely disappeared with 4.2.1 update.
It says CN when i run

uci show wireless.radio0.country

Thanks for clarification. But I don’t live in China. I just bought this product from China. Is there a way I can change the country?

Hi Nimaa,

any way to contact you directly?

thanks it already solved

The statement refers to the China version, not where you live.

You can order products in China from all over the world (e.g., AliExpress).

I’m having the same problem. I just updated firmware to 4.4.6 and I lost my VPN. I do not live in China. I’m not finding how to revert back to my original firmware. Any suggestions?

Did you buy it on a Chinese website? In that case you got a CN device.

< ahem >

Alexa, what does Van Tech Corner think about WireGuard VPN using OpenWrt?

I bought it on Lazada in Thailand from a local vendor. I had used a Thai vendor to avoid any potential problems imporiting one from outside the country. The VPN had been working fine until I updated the firmware.

You could try to use the old firmware again:

How interesting… Van Tech Corner is also Thai… or was that Vietnamese?

< cough, cough > Sorry; I must have had something a bit too ‘spicy’ earlier.

Thanks, that worked.
