GL-BE3600pp lo (Slate 7) — Admin password requested but never set, factory reset doesn’t fix it

Hi,

I have a GL-BE3600 (Slate 7). When I connect to 192.168.8.1, the login screen asks for an “Admin Password” that I never set — this is a router I’m setting up, so there should be no existing password.

I’ve tried a full factory reset multiple times using the reset button (holding until the touchscreen shows “Release to Reset Mode,” confirmed the LEDs blink and the router reboots), but after every reset, the same password prompt appears again — it never goes into the initial setup flow where I’d create a new password.

I’ve also tried:

**•**	The “Forgot Password” option on the login screen, which just tells me to do the reset (already tried, no change)

**•**	Logging in from a different device (same result)

**•**	Clearing browser cache / private browsing (same result)

**•**	Entering via LAN cable instead of Wi-Fi (same result)

I saw a similar report in another thread about the admin password breaking after a firmware update on this same model. Could this be the same issue? What’s the recommended fix — a fresh firmware flash without keeping config, or something else?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi,

Thank you for the detailed information.

Could you please let us know which firmware version is currently installed on the Slate 7?
Also, if you had changed the Wi-Fi SSID before, does the SSID return to the default one after performing the factory reset?

You may also try reinstalling the firmware through U-Boot and then check whether the router still asks for an existing admin password after booting.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
