Hi GL-iNet support team,
could you please help with this information, what will be the load impact on CPU when using wireguard or openvpn, as i do not see any difference when enabling both the protocols on mudi, except speed on the traffic over the vpn, wireguard has better speed.
FYI, currently i’m using the 4.x snapshot on it.
Most WG VPN providers (generally) default to ChaCha20-Poly1305 vs some level of AES. The latter is more CPU intensive. So is just running OpenVPN regardless. It’s a primary reason WG also preforms better on mobile devices while some (most?) computers have Advanced Encryption Standard Instructions (AES-NI).
You can watch your CPU load in near real-time if you can SSH into your device & opkg update && opkg install htop && htop
.
