I have a GL-E750 since 2022.
His function was supposed to be a WiFi router of my workplace/house.
I work and live in a company that charges for the WiFi connection, and offer only WhatsApp connection for free.
So in order to connect to the paid internet version, you can only be logged at one device per session.
In 2022 this router used to do this job well; but since last year, in two different work locations, it just doesn’t work anymore.
The question is now, when I set it to repeater, it connects to the WiFi, but it don’t resolve the captive portal, where I should login and press start on my internet package.
If I try to ping the DNS server of the network or even the https://captiveportal.com, it pings back and translate the domain in IP.
But from any device connected I can’t access the webpage required to press start.
Any help will be so appreciated. I’m running latest firmware version of Mudi. 4.3.19.
Even before your answer here I have disabled the DNS Rebinding Attack Protection, and left the DNS as automatic.
In this situation I don’t have ADguard even installed on my Mudi.
Even before your answer as well I had make sure that the VPN was off and so the kill switch “Block Non-VPN Traffic”.
But it stills just print the domains and dns from the network but don’t load the captive portal.
If I try to clone the mac adress or my phone when it’s connected, or even my iPad or any other device, it don’t work as well.
As a last resort I did a complete firmware reset, and still nothing.
I think this network have something like UUID register of each device, because, if I press start on the internet on my phone, clone it’s mac adress to my Mudi GLE750, when I close modem connection, because it won’t work, and come back to the phone, the internet is stopped again.
Any light you can throw on this situation will be much appreciated, since I’ll be living with this network for the next 7 months, and I really need a lan for my devices, and the only way for them to get connected if in lan is having internet coming from my GLE750.
You may run into issues if you clone your phone's mac address and try to connect to wifi while the phone is still connected. That could cause the wireless access point to shun the connections if they are using any form of wireless intrusion prevention technology. I am not at all familiar with the specifics of the Mudi as I don't have haven't owned one. There have been a lot of enhancements in the 4.6 codebase to better support what you are doing, but I don't know if that is available to your model. Hopefully Bruce will be able to add some information here for you.
That said, you have checked the basic stuff, but one more thing you might try to do is clear the dns cache on your device when you try to connect. From an administrator command prompt perform an ipconfig /flushdns command prior to trying to connect to the portal.
Well said, @packetmonkey. As I mentioned before, I’ve been using my Mudi GLE-750 from more or less 3 years already.
In te last 12 months it get unusable on my workplace
And yes, I never tried to connect both devices with same MAC address together.
Now, about flushing DNS, its done from LUCIs panel?
And you suggest me to connect my iPad, turn the internet on from the captive portal, disconnect the wifi from iPad, forget the connection in the Mudi, connect again, using same MAC, and iP adressses, but before hitting connect, sending this flushdns command?
As well if @bruce can throw some light will be welcome.
Yes, the same router used to work, showing captive portal, for 1 year and a half.
In this time, MAC cloning was working as well.
Now since a major upgrade in the system, it don’t displays the captive portal anymore, and even if I clone MAC addresses and IPs it doesn’t work.
