GL-E750 WIFI on WG or OpenVPN not connected

Hi all,

I'm having trouble connecting to a WIFI source on my GL-E750 router. Firmware 4.0. The WIFI is password protected and does not have a captive portal. Connection works fine without a VPN connection if just repeating the signal.

I've tried both Wireguard and OpenVPN connections, but they seem to get stuck in yellow ocassionally the connection becomes green but no websites can be accessed. Then it usually drops again.

Any suggestions on what to try?

It seems that your upstream Wifi blocks VPN. Could this be possible?

That’s certainly possible. It’s the first time I’ve encountered this in a public library.
Are there settings I can adjust to bypass this with OpenVPN or WG?

I am still able to use VPN thru the native Surfshark app on my phone using IKEv2

if use the E750 sim cellular network, does the VPN client connect and work well?

You may need to do more test:

  1. Does the Internet works without vpn? Pls confirm that your get through the portal page and have normal Internet.
  2. Does vpn connect on Carrier network?

If both yes then it seems that the network blocks vpn.

Then you can try change vpn port. Some vpn use 443 as server port. If the network simply blocks popular ports then using 443 may work.

Yes to 1 and 2 above. I suspect a block, but I was able to get online yesterday for several hours after adding a new location on the VPN, but as of today it's not working again.

How can I change the port to 443?
Are there other firewall settings to try in settings?

It is related to the VPN server provider, required to check their VPN configuration, find it 'endpoint' which use non-443 port
