From /etc/spool/sms/incoming I can see the message, but the UI shows only senders number and blank message.
Is there anything to fix this? It is a little impractical to dig message contents using ssh.

If it's version 4.3.x, it might be a known issue. Please update it to the beta version and try it again.
Tried and messages are working with the beta version. Sadly the 4.8.3 version isn’t compatible anymore with blue-merle package so I have to stick with 4.3.26.
There was one bug I noticed with the beta version. When I connected to a VPN-server the Mudis screen still showed that VPN is off
Screen cannot display VPN status is a software and we are working on it. For FW v4.3.26, you can share device via Goodcloud, we'll see if we can fix it remotely.
