GL-iNet Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) .how good

I am still running 2 x Flint1 in both my homes. They are ROCK solid excellent VPN and WiFi routers although it looks like no more firmware updates are coming.

I have a Flint2 but I’ve been waiting until now for firmware to get stable enough for me to switch.

Well, this might have different reasons. The most obvious one would be DNS leak.

checked that does’t appear to have a leak!

well i got it working and all appears except one this i have lost half my speed.i didn’t have huge speeds only around 250 from my skylink . but now i am down to around 150 when i spoke to surfshark the said try openVPN..?? any ideas i was told Wireguard was way fasre??

I’m pushing 1.1Gbps over Wireguard with my Flint 2 (op24 latest). Not a commercial VPN but a gateway at work. Now Flint3 has to push at least advertised numbers (historically with GL-inet devices in real life their devices actually perform bit better than advertised). Try to change the server which you connect to, and try Nordvpn or Airvpn

i am a pensioner i cannot afford to go paying for nord or any other after paying for surfshark

i am not good at setting these sort of things up i have got the surfshark sorted and would like to try to try openvpn which i think is free but cannot for the life of me understand how to do this….

I tried the Flint 3 but returned it as the older Flint2 with better /faster cpu performed much better here.

You can't use OpenVPN just because it's free if there is no server on the other side.
For using a VPN, you will always need a server or service. In your case: A provider.

Try Mullvad; they offer 1-month contracts for 5 USD: https://mullvad.net
